Blackhorn 209

I am new to black powder shooting and need an answer before I accidentally end my career much too early. I have heard that you should never mix powders...OK! I have also been told by people at Blackhorn that their 209 will not work in a Hawken .50 because the ignition is not hot enough to ignite it...OK! Question: Could I just put a few grains of FFG (5 or so) down the barrel first then follow it with the 209, using the ffg as a sort of secondary primer to ignite the 209. I want to use 209 if possible because of it's cleanliness and less fouling?

S&W Break-Open with no release

I have been trying to find the release for a S&W break-open. I have looked at the sides and found nothing. I have tried everything but I can't get it to close. The cylinder release on the top does not return to the closed position. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this.

Hard To Pull Triggers and Group Sizes-----First Try

Blaming the heavy trigger for greater than MOA groups from my Handi I was looking for an easy way to lighten the trigger.I tried the pushing on the hammer While pulling the trigger repeatedly with no noticeable difference.(no trigger pull guage)Then read something about using powdered graphite and tried that. Now that made a noticeable difference.Let's go shoot it and see what happens!Aw shucks........no change in grouping. Now I think I know why.Groups are in the 1.5" to 2"range.Shooting with bags under stock and frame just in front of trigger guard the rifle is held snug enough that the trigg

Old Fart new technolgy

I'm not 100% that I'm even doing this correctly. But then who really cares?

Just here recently during the past couple weeks I experienced the dreaded inner ear problem.
I spent a week feeling like I needed to hug a toilet. Well after a run to the emergency room and then a visit to a Ear Nose & Throat specialist I was able to get the needed drugs to help clear this up.
I only mention this to say I stopped by one of my favorite gun stores in Oklahoma City today after my followup doctors visit.
I stopped by Outdoor America Store on MacArthur street just north of I-40.

Thoughts on the H&R 243 Youth Rifle & Ammo...

I Just recently purchased a H&R 243 Youth Rifle for the heck of it... I've Never killed a deer although have been hunting a few times. The rife that I already own is a Remington 700 7mm Rem Mag, but was looking for something small & light weight. I've been told that a 243 is all you need really since I hunt in the woods and my shot range is 60 yards or less. I put a pretty big scope on it which maybe overkill but that's what I like in scope's, personal preference I guess... It's a Leapers 4-16x50 with a 3" sun shield. The Ammo that I bought for it is Winchester 243 100 gr. Power-Point...

Glock school

Your freind doc is now a certified Glock armorer. I had the chance to go tho the school, all one day of it , for free, at no cost to me because of a program tht GLOCK has for it's stocking dealers. There was a seat, and no one to fill it, so there i went.

Church security

A lot of my students seem to be interested in church security. While laws differ from state to state, North Carolina has no law against carrying a concealed weapon in a church, unless their is a sign posted prohibiting it, or unless a person in charge(usually a head of a deacon board, or the pastor, depending on how the church is set up, makes a statement to that effect.

carry class

I had a wonderful time of food, fellowship, and learning with some good people in Fairveiw, nc saturday just past. One fellow called me, and asked if i could come to the community center and teach a ccw class. I said sure, especially if the group would cook breakfast and lunch. My wife gets tired of doing cookong, cleaning and paperwork. Especially after the long hard days she puts in at the end of the school year.
