Here it is, loaded with golf ball #8, after firing the 7 rounds for competition.  (That was so I could concentrate on the pictures and not do something STUPID nor UNSAFE - like leaving the INFAMOUS Goex powder can near the mortar when firing it.)

Note the simplicity of lines and design - to accentuate the elegence of design and rendition of some of the others we've we've seen sneak previews of.

More pix and details very soon.

Here's the drawing of the tube and breech plug.
I'll replace this drawing with one with dimensions as soon as I get it dimensioned.

Breech plug slides into the tube from the muzzle.

1/4-20 set screw (breach plug is threaded, barrel has 1/4" clearance hole) puts pressure on one side of trunnion pushing it forward clamping breech plug between shoulder inside the tube and the trunion - locking assembly together.

Touch hole is drilled through tube and trunion.

more to come

Thanks, Powder keg, but the real elegance of this one is in what I learned in the process.  (I really like George's design and rendition.)

I turned about 6 tubes of different lengths (one was one-caliber long and used fire crackers) and had at least 3 designs of breech plugs.  I can machine much faster and to a much better finish now compared to when I turned the parts shown - that's one of my gains in this contest.

CW,
Since we are saving this thread for the archives, can you repost the images somewhere they will stick around?

Since I'm more or less new to this forum, I agree, 'cause they aren't there now! I'd like to be able to go back in the old threads and see some of the stuff that has been posted, but can't open a lot of it. Thanks, CW. BoomLover
