Our local celebs from Hillbilly hand fishin get paid by the show.
Not as much as you would think but yes they get paid. Can't say that all these jokers get paid but these boys do.
The boss lady went to school with them and I fished with them back when we were kids.
Their daddy was a live off the land kind guy who took an odd job now and then but mostly he trapped, hunted and fished to get by.

The article Siskiyou posted said the trapper in Alaska used a .358 caliber rifle. Anyone know what type rifle. I assume a BLR. Lightweight, fast handling.

I watch it if I'm bored, ha. I get a kick how everything is "dangerus", i.e. the dog can't disappear for a minute w/o "maybe the bear got it", or theres a grizzly outside, so "let's open the door and shine a lantern, sic the dog on him", ha. Saw the visit with the brother, "pushed the lion offf the ranch" with 3 wild mustangs, and did you see those old ragged, wore out saddles and tack? ha
I still don't know how Eustice 'can't make it through the winter w/o his Kale crop". Or why they have 2x6"s on the place, but he has to use quarter rails to build a deer blind? ha. Best of all of "how dangerous it was to pull that Toyota up the "frozen hill" with two big horses...they ought to see the ragged contraptions those South African blacks hook up and pull with a donkey, ha. And that barn held up "with chunks"! ha. He can get full length logs for a deer stand, but not for the barn? Sweet.
And ol Marty, I like him the best, you got to be half crazy to fly a small plane, let alone in Alaska, and he seems the most resourceful of them all. Just living in that kind of cold is a challenge, but no one really expected him to walk back 10 miles, sure if he was alone. And not even a .22 pistol for the trapline? Maybe he had it on under his coat? It's just a TV show, and better than most of the other "Hunting shows" where the Metallica Wannabes are playing that awful garage band crap music...there, I said it, ha. What a hoot. Where's Mutual of Omahas Wild Kingdom when you need it or Marty Stouffer...ha.
I like just seeing the different country each is in, that's the best thing about the show for me, but hey, everybody is scratching for a dollar nowadays...I don't know, but they tell me that "even Kim Karadashian's show" is all a fake...lol.

I nearly fell off my chair when they said the Toyota pick-up that team of horses was pulling weighed 8,000 pounds. They must have beefed it up in case the president needed to borrow it.

Let's face it guys. The show is poorly directed, but sometimes it's more interesting to watch than all the other stuff on TV. My guess is that the producer/director is not someone who understands the outdoors, but I still watch it instead of CNN. ;D

The same thing crossed my mind, their narrator and the narrator for Swamp People need a reality check on weight guestimates! :

I watched this mess again last night. I stand corrected This thing should be called Mountainmen Out of Molemen, or How Can Anything Be Exagerated Any Worse?

Holey buckets, what exactly makes up an exciting day in the life of producers and directors? They must have a dreaded fear of garbage dispoals, and what could take place at the four way stop at the end of the street? Announcer voiceover, Delbert needs to be very cautious here, many is the time that a concrete mixer truck has lost its brakes, and when approaching this intersection he is vitaly aware of the dangers involved. One misstep and Delbert would have to make use of his auto policy and his healthcare policy, both about to wrecked by administrative cost that are skyrocketing. How will our hero escape this tragedy in the making? Cue to a commercial.

The only rifle I saw with Ol Marty was a Ruger .44 Carbine. I'm sure he has other rifles. I wathced it last night and Eustice finally got a doe, so they won't starve this winter, Thank You Jesus! ha.
And don't those grizzly ever hibernate in Montana? I have to admit, I started having a good time watching this last night, ha.
Ol Manny of the Swamps in Florida is another character, saw him worry a hog to death with a spear, and another hog just about cut him from crotch to eyeball, ha. All of it is better than Piers Morgan for sure! Happy 4th guys.

Hey, Empty Quiver. Not all who ended up as producers and directors are whimps. ;D I started out as a cameraman. Do you remember the riots of the 60s & 70s and good old Kent State? I saw them through a camera viewfinder. It got downright dangerous at times. But, I agree with you that these seem hoaky to me. They should have an outdoor advisor.
I still watch them instead of the more boring TV shows, and I sure like that Super Cub.

The thing I find most annoying about that show is how the producers seem to think a gun is a gun and no one will notice if the gun changes in mid scene. The kid, Justin, was shown attempting to sight in a plastic stocked '94 Winchester, shooting a Marlin .22 and fiddling with a Remington pump rifle but somehow it was Justin's fault when Eustace botched a 40 yard shot with his Ruger #1 and had to track the deer with a pump shotgun. ;D
Same thing with Swamp People, we'd see someone aiming with four different rifles on what was supposedly all the same gator. It seems the swamp folks were told to wear the same clothes every day so producers could cut and edit together pieces which were actually shot on different days but they never thought about different guns and didn't consider it important because a gun is a gun.

The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

Troy wears the same shirt because he says it is his lucky shirt, maybe the rest do the same, I did notice that Troy seems to have put on a little weight, Powderman you can go on youtube and watch some of the shows if you have any interest, I did notice that the Guise brothers were out fishing for gar fish last week and Mitchel has been dead for close to 3 weeks, can't waist any of that film footage with all the mistakes that us professional people pick up on it is still better than alot of the other trash, cant wait for this evening just relax and watch swamp people and those mountain men. I like Liz and Kristie they are two tough gals.

On Eustace's muffed shot.

Why on creation do you trust someone whom you have little trust in... sight in your rifle? What exactly did you do to said rifle causing it to require re sighting anyway?

Maybe I am spending too much time and money finding and purchasing equipment that can be trusted to hold zero.
