Default 2 year old Rye/No Germinaion.... NONE!

I had purchased 30 lbs of Rye about 2 years ago, intending to plant in Early August for a deer food plot. Im in Minnesota and have had great success several other years planting Winter Rye although I planted it the same month i purchased from the feed mill. But this Fall, not one sprout! nothing came up! I had stored the seed for 2 years hanging from the rafter of my Garage, no moisture. What would cause the seed not to germinate? What am i missing?

Thanks

Seed that has lain dormant for 10,000 years, since the time of the Romans, has been planted and germinated. I dunno. I have had seed from the previous year germinate with mixed results. some great, some not so great. I don't have a two year old experience.
