.357 Magnum
.22 Hornet
.38-55 with proper bore and chamber dimensions, unlike the H & R Target.

With a rumored $1200 price tag, it's likely a gun I will never afford.

McGiver? What? A rumored price tag of $1,200?

Henry has already announced the suggested retail price of about $450 for these single shot rifles.

No rumors, brass models are over $400, blue models are well under $400.

For another $250 you could have a 223 rebored and chambered to 375 Win(38-55), then you could have your cake and eat it too!!

Tim

H&R 158 .30-30 to .38-55???

.375 Win!

Greetings
40-65 I am partial to 40's . I would prefer a 405 Winchester but the brass cost is a bit high and 40-65 will do about 95% of what the 405 Winchester will.

Looking for answers... try the Bible. John 5:39

Surprising number of votes for the 405 Winchester. However, the growing consensus appears to be .30-30, then .357 Mag, and then maybe 38-55 and .22 Hornet. (Haven't done an official count in a while.)

Hopefully, the Henry Company itself is counting these posts.

+1 for an elegant cartridge.

In case the Henry company does have someone counting, I would buy a 32-40 today.
