Yep, new blackhawk. Better mechanicals than traditional SAA's, strong and well made. Old notch sights are traditional, but I like the adjustable sight on the Blackhawk - more practical I think!

Yep, Ruger, for sure and certain; get the newer Colt's size version and yer good to go. My 50th Anniv. Flat Top got me started, no regrets and I aint lookin' back.
Now, just so you know, a sturdy 357 single action aint gonna be 'light', but that is all relative. They are built on the same frames as bigger calibers, which have bigger holes, so 44's and 45's are actually lighter by a bit if you are just comparing gun weight.
They all get heavier when you load them, so the spread gets closer. And what good is an unloaded gun, anyway? Then its just another paperweight......

Used Ruger for the strength and safety of carrying six.

But, you can occasionally pick up a used Hawes or JP Sauer 357 on GBroker for $350 range. They are older guns that I think were used when Great Westerns weren't available for the TV Golden Age of Westerns.

Stout Colt style.

I too am a Ruger fan. But my brother recently bought a Heritage in 45 colt. It's a very well balanced and put together gun. I think they run around 400 new. I didn't slug the bore but the throats were .452 and very even. I was impressed and not a little surprised.

I believe it's made by Peitta.

There was a time that I wouldent give a dime for anything Peitta made but the few I've seen lately look pretty good.

That's about $150 to $200 more than i have seen sauers and hawes go for here, i paid $100 for the one i had. They really are quite fragile when you compare the internals to a ruger. Plus there is virtually no parts available for them when they break. I sold mine and gladly spent $350 on my super black hawk.

A ruger is so much stronger it should be no contest at all.

I agree, the attraction to most obsolete arms has faded for me; unless I can get a parts gun so cheap that for the two Im still way less than a used Ruger (which seems to be the 'gold standard' of value for many years now).

Without any doubt, in my mind, a used Ruger Blackhawk of some flavor is the very best choice. I recently purchased (won) a Ruger New Model Blackhawk Flattop .357/9mm in as new condition for $450.00 (made in 2015). I have seen several used .357 Blackhawks online and at area dealers in the $350 to $500 range. They really hold up and most used ones are in very good operating condition. You can't go wrong with a Ruger Blackhawk.

I was just today shooting my 3 screw Blackhawk. I bought it used in the mid 1960s. Mine hasn't been used much mostly a safe queen. Still shoots good however.
