very comparable to the newer vx2 leupold/4200 bushnell/vortex diamondback in optical performance. Back when they were 300 bucks they were a good bargin. Now ziess has a new entry level scope(terra) and many are disappointed with them. Bottom line is ive had 3 of them. None right now but sure wouldn't be ashamed to put one on ANY of my guns. But price would be the determination. One thing ive noticed with zeiss scopes is theyre pretty proud of them and you pay a bit for the name. Personaly I wouldn't give you any more for one then the cost of a vx2. Ill add that I don't know if they stepped up the quality of the conquest when they came out with the terra.
Very good glass....very heavy scope. I had one on a Remington 700 BDL in .30-06, and it really made the rifle heavy enough that I didn't hunt with it much. The Zeiss Conquest is head and shoulders above the scopes listed above in optical quality, but again, it's heavy.
Don't really agree with Lpete in that the glass is extraordinary. there a good scope but there sure not the same glass I higher end zeiss has. In that price range leupold recently has made LOTS of improvement and zeiss has gone the other way with there entry level (terra) scope line. When the conquest came out it was competition against the vxII and vxIII leupolds and it was close competition. But the newer vx2 is as good if not better and the vx3 is just plain better optically. My opinion comes from owning both and actually doing side by side comparisons in good light and bad. Sorry but theres no magic that comes with stamping something ziess. Bottom line though is at that price its a real good buy on a darned good scope. One thing you do have to keep in mind buying a ziess though is there warrantee isn't what a leupolds or some others have. If you have problems you will pay for service. Leupold, vortex and some others have a lifetime unconditional warrantee. Chances are though that you would never have a problem with it and honestly id jump all over it for that price.
