7mmSTW may be a good choice being it is difficult to find someone to make Weatherby barrels. I cannot think of any calibers to fit your needs besides custom chamberings except maybe the 7mm Mag and 300 Win Mag Good luck and welcome to the Encore addiction!!!!!!!!!!!! Encore28

308 is enough. Bullet placement and selection are very important at those ranges. I have shot 1 deer at just under 300 yards with the 308 using a 165 gr Sr bullet. I have passed up a walking wide 12 pt at 374 yds per my range finder. I was holding a 30-06, but was not comfortable taking the shot from the tri-pod I was hunting from. If I would have been at a bench I would not have hesitated to take the shot. I would like to have taken that deer, he is the largest I have ever seen . My point is that hunting conditions are vastly different from shooting with sand bags. A good trigger is very important in hunting conditions. Get the best rest you can (peferrably front and back) before attempting 300 yd shots. If you can shoot prone, then use a bi-pod and a bag of some sort to put under the rear of the rifle. I am generally hunting from a stand and use the window with a straddle bag on the window and a shooting stick for the rear of the rifle. Takes a little practice.
Bullet selection for longer shots need to be something that will expand at the velocity at the time of impact. For deer, you do not need the premium controlled expansion bullets (like Barnes TSX etc.) at these ranges. I would prefer something like a GameKing or an SST or an AMAX bullet in the 308 for this range. You might consider the 7 SAUM or the 7 WSM or either of the 30 calibers in the same configuration since they shoot a little flatter. A little more velocity with these over the 308. Can be just as accurate. Use a range finder.
Good luck!!

OOPS! I forgot we were talking Encores. No SAUMs or WSMs. You would have to look at the 7 MAG , 30-06 or 300 Win Mag.

Bob S.
I didn't read that close enough. I race offroad in the "STORM" racing series. Did ride a Suzuki, but have switched to a Honda and KTM. Must be a different Klong. Sorry about the confusion.

280 rem, 7 rem mag, 300 mag, 30-06. All should be accurate with enough bullet weight for the distance. I recently shot my friends encore in 300 mag and it is very accurate. My longest deer shot was 330yrds with a 30-06, the bullet passed right through and the deer did not even move. Extremely solid rest and breathing control are key, of course you have to start with an accurate rifle too.
Good shooting, Brian

7-08. I can keep 3 rounds at about an inch on a calm day at 300 yds, which is as long as my local range is ... low recoil, can shoot this cartridge all day... Remember, bigger isn't always better. ( with a few exceptions of course )

If you want something accurate, why are you buying an Encore?

"If you want something accurate, why are you buying an Encore? "
I am always amused by newbies who join a group with a statement like that. It does set the tone for further conversation.
