7.62 x 39 caliber?

What is the bore diameter of the 7.62 x 39 handis?  Specificly should I shoot the Russian surplus ammo through it?  I have heard there are problems with this with several brands of rifles due to the Russian surplus ammo being larger in diameter than US ammo.  Search won't work for me.
