Friday I spent a great day at the range and was shooting my Model 157 Handi in 30-30.  After a couple shots I was cocking the hammer for the next shot and the hammer caught about halfway back and wouldn't go any further.  I slowly let the hammer down and tried again and it fully cocked that time.

It only happened once, but after that I kept getting misfires.  Each time I pulled the trigger the first time on a new round the round would not fire, when I re-cocked and tried again it would fire.  I don't think it is the ammunition because I have used ammo from the same lot before with no issues.

I suspect something is amiss internally, any suggestions?

Seems to me the 157 has a double hammer spring, maybe one side broke??

Tim,

Is the take down on the 157 the same as other Handis?  Can I use the directions in the FAQ's?

I haven't tore my 158 apart, but the pin arrangement is the same and JB says the old low profile hammers will work in SB1 and SB2 frames, so other than not having a transfer bar, the internals are the same. Wink The double spring is available from Numrich and Wolff spring. Here's a pic of the double spring.
