OK, so I go into this pawnshop today, even though pickings have been mighty slim lately.  There's a Smith Hi-way Patrolman...... pinned barrel, looks good, about $385.
"May I take a look at that Smith and Wesson", says I.
The salesman takes it out, opens cylinder, then slams it shut VERY forcefully. Goes to hand it to me.
"Never mind", I say.
"Why?" he asked.
"You slammed the cylinder shut, I don't care for that." And I walk out.
I'm walking to the truck and I hear somebody shout something so I turn around in time to see the door close.
Must have been directed at me.
Needless to say, they have lost a customer, and I've bought guns there before.

What do y'all think?
At least he didn't do the gangster thing and close it with a strong flip of the wrist, as I've seen people do many times.

Think I'll go get that Ruger 3-screw single-action at the real gun shop, where you'd be fired if you treated a revolver that way - and I think I'll stick with single actions - at least w/ used revolvers!

At the least, I would have educated him about sprung cranes, and checked that gun for one - as (generally) flipping shut doesn't do as much damage, or spring the crane, as does flipping them open.

But, then...................There's been many folks before, who've cut off their noses, to spite their faces.  Wink

Why was he handing you a gun with a closed cylinder? Huh When I sold guns were were strictly taught, and commom sense should tell someone, that you hand the gun to the customer with the cylinder still open.

bit touchy arent we. If you saw how the police probably treated that gun through the years that little flip of his hand would have meant nothing. Those smiths arent made of glass.

Well, you asked and I'll agree with Lloyd, I'm thinking you were a bit "touchy." But on the other hand, I've seen potential deals go South for much less.

I take the same approach as the OP. I'd have walked also. I won't intentionally buy one I've seen mistreated in that manner. Yeah I've actually had one of mine done that way but a person looking at it I thought was trustworthy. Needless to say I was not as nice as the OP was cuz it was MINE. Yeah it required a new crane as the one with it was bent badly. While they might be tough that crane is NOT and is the easiest part on a S&W to damge by abuse.

I'll join ya. I might not have left. Maybe I would? Roll Eyes But I'd have said something at least. I see a lot of dumb things at the local shops here. It's pretty sad that the guys who work behind the counter don't regularly practice the 4 basic rules. I get "swept" every time I go into my shops. I do bring it to their attention, but it doesn't seem to do any good. Smartest thing anyone can do is watch very closely every single time a gun is being handled or stay away altogether. I especially like the punks that come into gander mountain and pick up every gun they see, and point it at their buddies saying stupid things like "say your prayers biTch!!" I've complained several times to that store, to no avail....Yeah there are some seriously stupid people out there. A bent crane now and then is the least of my worries.
