If you could only have one single shot rifle what would it be?

I'd really like a Ruger in a big game caliber.  A 45-70 or something like that.  But a caliber of that size would be an overkill for mostly everything in Iceland so I'd go with a 308.

I was not familiar with Weiss until I googled him a couple minutes ago.  Yes, he and Hartmann did indeed build on the Hagn action.  Learned sumthin new.

I don't recall the exact year, but several years ago Ruger did a limited production of their Light Sporter in .257 Roberts. I found one on guntrader a long time ago but it was out of my price league.

I love the Light Sporter and have one in .243 and it's been great on whitetails here in Georgia. But, I've always had a thing for the .257 Roberts as a deer cartridge and would like to add that to my collection if I could find AND afford it!

I'd be HARD pressed to choose between the Ruger #1 and the Blaser K95...  either way, it would end up with a custom barrel, because they don't make either in .303 British.  So it would a Ruger #1A with a 23" barrel in .303 British.  I'd be able to have all of the custom work done to make it an absolute shooting machine, slap a high dollar scope on it, get a lifetime of custom loaded ammo, and STILL be cheaper than the Blaser.

Yes kyelkhunter3006 I like your thinking  there was a Scottish Gunmaker who designed his own improved Henry Falling block action and started making them. I actually phoned him and spoke with him about making one in 303 British but he obviously had some 7mm barrels and wanted me to order one in 7x65R but I wanted one if 303 so it never went any further  .

I've been waiting for a special run from Ruger....  I mean, they did the 7.62x39, .35 Whelen, 9.3x74, and the .405 Winchester for crying out loud....  I know for a FACT that more .303 Brit ammo is sold every year than what is sold for the last three calibers in a year COMBINED. 

This year has been a bummer, no extra funds for projects.  I will have a #1 in .303 if it has to the LAST RIFLE I EVER BUY (don't tell my wife I said that!).  Maybe not this year, but it will happen.

I decided that I could be perfectly happy with just a few more rifles (well, almost   ).  The Ruger above, a new Marlin 336 in 30/30 (what I'd give for one with a 22" barrel), an AR-15, a really nice rimfire rifle, and the odd ball gun, either a CZ 527 or Mini Mauser in 7.62x39 with a .310 barrel that's 22" long with a medium contour of around .675-.700 at the muzzle.  IMO, this would be the ultimate multi-purpose gun, capable of cheap plinking, predator hunting (nowadays, things bigger than coyotes answer the calls) and deer hunting.

Hmmmm tough to decide. 1st choice, My TCR with the '06 barrel. 2nd choice would have to be my early Blaser 12 gauge over 22WMR.

Geez......tough decision.
I've just bought a Ruger No1H in 450/400 NE 3".
If that turns out to be half as fun as it could be it might figure as my one single shot.
But if not a switch bbl large frame Martini Enfield in 303 Brit, 40/60 Maynard, 12 bore with 2 bbls - a smooth shotty bbl and a rifled bbl.

Yeah, it would be and if I can sort it I may well try it.
I already have a large frame Martini Enfield action and the extractor is already correct for 303 Brit.
40-60 Maynard can be formed from 303 brass and so it would be just a case of getting a bbl chambered to it and spin it straight on.
The only drawback is that 40-60 Maynard uses a 300gr .417" pill and so I'd either be forced to use a .416" cal bbl which would be pricey to buy bullets for and which the rifle would fire too slowly for them to expand properly or to cast them myself.
Another option is to size the neck down to .410" cal so I could use 210gr pistol bullets.
Or I could get a .411" cal bbl and shoot 315gr 405 Win pills in it.
In the end it's about practicality.
The ultimate I suppose would be a bbl in 577/450 instead of 40-60.
I could shoot 45 cal pills and since it's a nitro proofed action you'd have a rifle with more oomph than a Marlin loaded 45-70.
Mind you the cases would be pricey, tougher to re-size and I'd have to change extractor every time I changed the bbl.
That means pretty much stripping the rifle.
Not so fun!

It would be... and "is"... my Ruger #1 International (aka "RSI") in 7x57 with the Kepplinger single set trigger.  It looks sooooooooooo good in it's full Mannlicher-style stock, 20-inch barrel and an overall length of just 36 inches.

I've decided....if I could only have ONE.....(who would stnd for that?)  I'd choose a 22 WMR.   I have the skill set and the patience to enable it to humanely kill anything I choose to point it at.
