Extractors Vs. Ejectors

hey
I can eject a 45-70 and an 06 empty straight in the air load the gun and then catch the brass.
took practice and cant do it all the time but I can do it. I cant do it with an extractor. My rifles are hunters not hair splitters

Interesting range safety issue - if you performed that exercise at the range I shoot at I am sure you would be visited by range office for a discussion if the others shooters did not rip you first. I have rifles with both options and prefer an ejector but not by much.

That's a common problem, when I tune an ejector, I eliminate that issue by using a #6 machine screw, turn the head down in the drill press with a file so it will fit in the ejector housing, then cut the screw off so it's about ¼" long and use the head as the "BB" ahead of the spring, the screw shank goes in the spring as a guide help keep it straight in the ejector houisng That and polishing the ejector and housing makes stuck brass a moot point for all but too hot of a load.

Tim I am not sure I understand correctly but you are saying that your spring guide trick and polishing things up will make sticking cases go away (except for hot loads)? Not doubting you but I thought on mine it was because of a rough chamber and after polishing the chamber it seemed to help but still on some loads that do not appear to be hot nor should be by a reloading manual and still have em stick from time to time.... looks like I have some work to do.... thanks

I want ejectors, not extractors, just my personal opinion, I have two extractor barrels and have ordered barrels since and asked for ejectors and they put them on, no extractors for me, I want that empty to positively extract and fling over my shoulder, but I catch them with my hand when opening the rifle. JimP.

Polished chambers, making the ejector improvements, clean brass and chamber and not too hot of load, barring a defective chamber, sticking brass is a thing of the past.

I am a range officer at the local club.    Anyone doing something like that is not keeping the gun pointed down range, is not attending a LOADED gun (remember rule 1?), and is in danger of having a discharge going in an unsafe direction.  You not only would be told about it, but would be brought before the board and possibly barred.  With ranges getting surrounded by homes the first incident is also the last.

This info is direct from H&R/Marlin, I asked, they will not make an ejector barrel for a customer, the underlugs are different,  IF they happen to have an ejector barrel in stock when they fill your order, they'll provide it, but that's not likely with any popular chambering, the 450 Marlin may still have ejectors as it's a slow mover.

Your point noted and ignored. i AM NOT DANGEROUS AND STUPID! I have my own range and practice off hand, shoot trap and the like and am very good. I saw this trick done by some big high end shooter and I believe he might have copied it from me. I will not belong to a club for the reason that you mentioned. I just don't like people who are unsafe, who are henpecked, and have to exercise their predigests on people who can perform safely. getting back to this high predigests on TV that does the same trick write to him and his high end sponsor and get on his case and get off mine. I do take offense to your post and the other one
