327 - The new 32-20

reading performance specs and comments on other forums here, it looks like as close as I may ever get to a 32-20 in a ruger, so I am going to get one, if I have to put a kidney up on ebay. Now, have any of you in the know heard of any whispers about a 327 handi yet?? How about we start texting subliminal messages to the folks at Rem/Mar/Nef around the clock?? They quoted a Chuck Hawks field test out of an 18.5 barrel as 85 gr 1750, 115 gr as 1830, and the 100gr as 2000+ fps. Compared to "High velocity 32-20 loads, only with much heavier brass". Just reading that almost makes me want to light up a cigar.

The 327 probably isn't the equal of the 32-20 really, not with each is loaded with modern powders.  I have built several 32-20 H&R barrels and two 327 barrels, one throated for cast bullets and one for jacketed.  All shoot just fine, but I still think the 32-20 has the edge, it holds a little more powder and has a larger rim two work with.  This is a picture of a 327 left and 32-20 right, this is the cast bullet version of the 327 and the jacketed version of the 32-20.  Larry

 The other I know is get a 22 hornett barrel send it to

Larry, Do you think that the 327 for a cast lead bullet rifle the extra powder capacity for smokeless is probably not needed? (say. a 'schueutzen' type, max 200yd). If the throat is made for cast and long enough for the better BC bullets (longer than the 'std' 115ish gr.) the loading density and cartridge efficiency should be pretty good, no?
It would be nice to be able to fit up a .30 cal. barrel and use any of the many good BC .30 cal. cast bullet designs. Is the neck of the 327 too big for .30s (.310-.312ish)?

This is the same situation that the 45/70 and 450 marlin were in just acouple of years ago. The 32-20 could come back, but there are too many old guns for it still around that raise liability issues. I have a 32-20 10" barrel contender that shoots great, but I cant use it with a stock & scope, and it is a single shot. I see this (the 327 ) as my best opportunity to get similar performance . I also appreciate the stronger brass, as the 32-20 necks are very thin. I will be selling some stuff to finance one of the revolvers if my LGS guy can get one for me, if there was a handi rifle in 327 I could have just wrote a check and got away with it. I cannot in todays economy just afford to buy a barrel , then ship it off for a rebore and rechamber. I like the handi's, but lets face it, if the encore was 300$ instead of 800$, I would be going there. Likewise, if handi prices doubled, I would not be buying them either. I just hope they make a run of the 327,if they do I will buy one. If not, I will wait.
