BC 45/70s are not too common here in Australia. I went into a gun shop to buy some reloading supplies and thought I'd take a look at some 45/70s. A Marlin SS Guide Gun was good, But price a bit out of my range. Was then shown the BC. I had not handled one before and was impressed with the feel . Price was affordable, so a deposit was made. It was a great feeling as the shop owner wrote my name on the tag. I should be able to pick it up in 1-2 weeks when my permit arrives. I left with a bag of brass, 405gn slugs, and Lee dies so I can do some rounds up. I think I will try Trailboss powder for a start, as I am using it in my .44mags. I would appreciate any advice on experience with Trailboss in 45/70 - Pete ;

SlimPigguns,
What part of Australia are you in, I travel to Sydney for work every now and then. My last trip I had time to visit a couple gun/war surplus stores on George Street. The ANZAC Memorial in Hyde Park was also very interesting.

G'day vk4ale. Hi Allan, waiting anxiously for my permit. I suppose it'll be another week with Easter. When I get the BC we might all have to go to Belmont and have a range day - Pete

G'day Slim,
I also live North of Bris and like yourself am waiting for the rusty wheels of bureaucracy to turn so that I can pick up my BC. It's good to see all the money we pour into state coffers ensures efficient service 3 weeks and counting. Mostly I will use mine for Western Action side matches and I have a few ideas to snaz it up a bit. Anyway, good luck with it and remember to have fun and enjoy yourself.

I just got a nef 45-70 n.i.b. off an auction for $200.00. Took it to the range put 9 fast shots in 1 hole 1 5/8" @ 50 yrds. I'm old and don't look so good anymore. I know it will do better.

Bought the BC home at last. Pipeline construction behind the local range means that I wont get to shoot it until the weekend. I will have to stick to the stock sights for the moment, but I hope a Smith Ladder sight may appear in future. - Pete
