Had to put my 13+ year old golden retriever to sleep today. He was a real pal and I miss him already.

Feel your hurt. Most times it is the wife who has to make the last trip.  I finally gave up on replacing.  Now we just get the dog left another companion to keep the cycle going, and find that every one is a different bundle of joys and troubles.

I try not to, but I become attached to the darn critters. I remember each one of them. Some where more special than others, but all of them were unique and loved in their own way. Sorry for your loss, I know it hurts.

It's rough losing a member of the family! I've lost five over the years. The last two were within two months of each other. We haven't had one since! Just can't seem to find one that feels right.
You all know what I mean. Maybe someday.
Condolences to you and your family.

Your loss is felt by all of us who know the loving, forgiving friendship of a dog or other pet.  We buried five, from a very special horse to two dogs, a cat, and even a hand raised pet chicken, in the past two years.  We're getting old, and our geriatric critters are marching right beside us.  I'm expecting to loose my best ever canine friend and hunting dog, Abigail, in the near future.  It is a given. A part of owning and loving a pet and companion, is suffering the loss.  Believe it or not, Wing Ding, the pet chicken, used to sit on my lap on the back porch in the evening, be petted, and share a sip of wine from my glass.  She was killed by a weasel.  Thanks to a handy Handi he's an ex-weasel now, but it can't bring her back.

Your loss is shared, and understood.  I've got to go, cause I'm too teary to type.   With understanding and sympathy, Pete

I'd like to add my thoughts with the others.  After the first one we had to have put down, I said no more.  But there are 3 others buried next to her in the backyard along with a couple of fish, a couple of pet snakes and a turtle.  And there will be another dog shortly our 15 to 16yo yellow lab.  I was afraid that we were going to lose her a couple of months ago when the ground was frozen.  At least now, the ground has thawed and the flowers are starting to push up.  They all bring many fun memories back to mind.

I lost two of the best things in my life years ago.  First was my lab followed by my lovely wife.  My labs ashes were placed alongside my wife.  I still miss them both everyday.

My sympathy for you.

I know the pain and nothing will make it go away, It'll just become more bearable.
