1. If you're not already a member, join the NRA now. 2. Sign your spouse up for the NRA. 3. Sign up two friends for the NRA. 4. Although they'll bug you even worse if you start giving them money, strongly consider giving to the NRA PVF and ILA. 5. Call, email, or write your representatives. Request a written response with their position.

So where has this bill gone?I have heard nothing more of it latley. I would imagine they are going to run the economy into the ground and then slip this in when everyone is looking at other matters.
Although I actually kind of hope it does pass. They need to put it to a full semi auto and pump ban. It is sad to have heard alot of gun owners and hunters, say "well we don't need those kinds of guns".

The status is shown in crustaceous' or sk330lc's link, all ya gotta do is click it!! It's still in Referred to CommitteeThis bill is in the first step in the legislative process. Introduced bills and resolutions first go to committees that deliberate, investigate, and revise them before they go to general debate. The majority of bills and resolutions never make it out of committee. [Last Updated: Mar 7, 2009 9:53AM]Tim http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-45

I'm with Troyboy; I spend much toward protecting our rights and teach hunter safety classes and do what I can to round up youngsters to attend and get interested in hunting. More involved..more votes. I had not seen this earlier, but I would like to add one hing; if more parents would kick their kid's butts off video games and be just as avid a fan of our hunting kids as we are of our football, baseball and basketball playing kids..things would be better in the gun world.
BTW: no offense meant, and if the shoe doesn't fit..leave it lay..

billy, are you saying that if they were proposing a ban on all semis and pumps, more gun owners and hunters would get involved? But because it doesn't affect their guns, they're not interested? Excellent point. ironglow, your one thing is probably even more important than joining the NRA or voting.

Hello Everyone It is my understanding that HR45 has not been cosponsored and will not go anywhere unless cosponsored. To cosponsor this would be political suicide. I think its a diversionary ploy to draw attention away from the reinstatement of the semi automatic legislation. Regards Yankee1

It is a sad comment on the nitwits in D.C. when they w3ant to treat honest gun owners like convicted child molesters..or maybe worse. Some of the liberal bastions (like VT judiciary) don't want the child molesters punished..

For those who think HR45 has no chance, try moving to Hawaii.
All of my guns are now registered in the National DB, because I had to register them with the state or they cannot be operated, transported or stored. I'm active duty military so I had no choice in moving here, have to rent, etc. etc. I had to pay $30.25 (exact change only) for an FBI fingerprint, and when I decided to purchase a new gun with my combat pay, I had to pay again for a permit to acquire, and produce notarized evidence of training. Its been 14 days since I applied for the permit for this specific gun (had to produce serial number, bill of sale from vendor), so yippee today I get to go pick up the permit, so I can pick up the gun, and then go back and register it with state (National DB). Thank God I'm military trained or I would have had to sign up for State approved training, which is costly, time consuming, and occurs in conjunction with the lunar eclipse. We have a hi-cap ban, no open carry, no concealed carry practically.
And this is where King Hussein spent his formative years - fair and reasonable gun control.
I PRESUME that this was for a pistol. The most assinine thing is that if you want a rifle you would:
A) Apply for a permit to acquire (wait 2 weeks) B) Pick up permit to acquire (it is good for one year) C) Buy as many long guns as you want and not have to take them in to register???

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." How in Hades are they able to continue doing it?? Convicted felons should not be allowed to own weapons. When they committed the felony they proved themselves to be no longer "of the people". But, it should not be a felony for anyone to buy, sell or trade firearms without a FFL, carry a concealed weapon, carry a suppressed weapon, send a firearm through the mail, or own a full automatic weapon. These are all "infringements" on our Constitutional Rights.

From what I have read here even felons can poses firearms in MN. It has something to do with restoration of civil rights. http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hrd/pubs/firearms.pdf

Stubshaft, the process for a long gun in HI is the same for the 1st, but you can buy others later on the same permit for a year. Each has to be registered within 3 days, no FTF transactions. For each handgun repeat whole process except fingerprints.
Living here has opened my eyes to the liberal agenda.

I come across this, but I'm not for sure if it would help. I don't think it could hurt anything though. SO It could help if you would sign it. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/lets-stop-bill-hr-45

Just to clarify torpedoman's post, the same bill introduced in 2007 under HR 2666 (during the previous session of Congress) died in committee when the session ended in 2008. See http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-2666The current bill, introduced in January 2009 (the current session of congress) is still in committee, where it may very well (and hopefully does) die when the current session ends late next year. See http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-45 for the status of the current bill. Just a Shooter

I have forwarded this info to all the gun owners I know. We all will write our reps and make them understand how we feel about losing our gun rights. This bill is just ridiculous. Thanks, Dinny

Follow the govtrack link and look at related legislation ... there's some scary ones out there. I don't like H.R. 257 much either.

Is there any chance that they are doing the 1 year free membership again? I signed up last year & recieved the american hunter magazine but I am flat broke now without a penny to spare.

You raise a great point. I know the NRA is like every other lobbying entity, it needs money to be effective. However, they are also symbolic of an idea shared by millions many of whom are affected by the economy. That idea really is too important to hang solely on paying customers, so perhaps a pay what you can when you can membership would be a good option.
I confess I've been looking for a sign to prod me to renew my membership this year, the cause is right, but the organization is starting to give me pause.

In anyones opinion, where is the NRA at as far as winning the battle or simply just holding there ground? I want to support NRA as much as the next gun owner but cant do so at this time.
