hey all, recently purchased a 1858 army from cabela's, i like the gun but the grips aren't fitted to the frame very well. just was wondering if any one has reworked them for a better fit. i'm planning on it, but want to make sure that the wood isn't stained before i start to sanding on them.

To check for stain, take one off and scratch the inside area, where it won't be seen. I've adjusted many Ruger wood grips to better fit the frame, depending on how much needed to be removed; I either used my dremmel or sanding blocks and finished with Arrow wood hand rubbed finish to my desired gloss.
