So sorry to hear that he has passed.  We exchanged PMs and a few emails.  It was always good to hear from him.  I admired him and the ethics that he had.  A very fine gentleman.

May peace be with you and your family.  Our prayers are with you.

I really thought I had posted here already ( but I dunno)!

This was some really bad news! I sent Debby and Email telling her to put his son in touch with his dad's posts here on GBO, that they may give him some insight and comfort.

Go with God, Pard!

Here in the words of his sister Debby is the story of the last few days of Alan's life.

Quote
Dear Bill,
Unfortunately, Alan died in the hospital, he was trying to continue his journey and was in Seattle WA. He was found slumped over on a bench, and a bystander called 911, on Wed late afternoon, after Mother's Day. He was then taken to Harbor View Hospital where he received the best of care, but 2 pulmonary embolisms were too much , even for them. He was up and talking , doing much better and had even discussed coming back home here to Bonifay. I had talked with him 3 times before he passed away, the first he was still groggy, the second time we spoke, he just had praises for the medical staff and was asking about the garden & pets...then he asked about the family...Ha Ha...On the third and final conversation, I asked him did he want to come home to Bonifay, and he said, yes. A few hours later he passed away. I had spoke to the doctor concerning his progress and she had stated he would be sent to a step down unit next (from ICU) and then in about an hour or less she called back and said he was gone. He went fast and did not suffer according to the Doctor at his bedside, when he went home to be with our ancestors. Thanks for posting this if you think it appropriate. Or you can edit as you see fit.....
Thanks again for all your help in getting out the news of Alan's passing.
sincerely,
Debby

All to sad, if I remember correctly, Alan took early retirement and the buyout from the State of Tennessee.  He had plans to travel, camp, and hunt at many different places around the country.

I sure hope he got to see some of the places he wanted to see, and I was looking forward to hooking him up with some of the bear hunters here in E. TN.

He got cheated out of his retirement by the most unfortunate of problems, his health.

I thought he was a fine man.  Rest In Peace.

I never met Alan personally, but I knew him well through his posts here.  He was a role model for all of us.  I trust in the Lord that we will meet in eternity.  His is missed.

I was very saddened to read this. I spoke with Alan a few times offline after we did some trading. I was restocking my survivor stock (with supplies) that I traded with him for and got to thinking about him. Time slips past, and you don't even realize it. RIP Alan. I don't know you long enough or well enough, but you are someone that I will remember fondly. I sincerely hope you found joy when you received your answer to the Great Mystery.

I was a little surprised and delighted to see another post on this thread, Good to see others remember him, I only conversed with him here in threads but I liked his attitude and he seemed younger than his age, maybe it was his personality. Glad to see he is remembered, good to know!
