The Skoda Artillery has always interested me, I have an original catalog from around this period.

I was looking for details on Seeppot.  My "rare Boer strap Mortar"  May evolve into into a replica of Seeppot.

DD are you sure this is a strap mortar? To me this looks like it's cast one piece, there is also a slight rim at the muzzle and the back looks to be rounded not flat.

Ah, Alan, don't let anybody know, but the "strap mortar" is a fantasy mortar, made up like a Confederate Mortar using straps to hold the tunnion so we can shoot in next month.  Building into Seeppot should take place this winter.

Got ya! I was wondering about this project, your strap mortar was the first I had heard of this type of attachment relating to Boer or any other mortars........
I do like the thinking behind it.

 I'm surprised at your lack of knowledge here, Boom J.

 The strap mortar was designed to fire cans of blackstrap molasses. High in iron content (for weight), and the sticky goo held the enemy in place long enough to shoot them with a rifle.

I have some pictures off Seeppot Number 24 standing at Fort Klapperkop in Pretoria and off number 4 in the museum of military history in JHB. I will try and measure one of the up and make a Drawing off it. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures I will do so.

Wonderful.  While living in SA, I never got to the military museum in JHB.  To much to see in do in Durban.

Pictures would be lovely. Based on what the Seeppot Mortar looked like, here’s what I need in pictures.  Straight right, straight front, straight rear, straight left, cap squares and how they hold the trunnion.  Measurement  of length and width of base, height of corners of base. Measurements of the diameter of the Trunnion. Measurement of distant from bottom of Trunnion to bottom of the of Base.  Diameter of the muzzle.  If the muzzle has a reinforcing ring the diameter just behind the ring.

I have just created an acount to host my pictures as you indicated in the sticky's. Once that is up and going I will attempt to post the pictures. The pictures I got does not have the wooden base but a steel base and that is on both mortars.

From what your posted If you were to get me the muzzle diameter and the trunnion diameter, I can scale the wooden base.

There is no rush, this is in the design stage right now.  Its a winter time project. Our winter, not yours...

I remember Jethro had an iron hat in his "double-naught spy" phase.

He would usually end up knocking himself cold with it.

Drawings?  I'm old school!  There might be some rough sketches, but no drawings.  But I will share.  Mine will be a representation and not a replica.

A friend in SA sent more pictures of one of the mortars in SA. With your pictures and these new pictures, I learned something about the original.  The base is bronze also!  Dan and Gary will love it!
