I have had a 715 for years, and always just had the 4" barrel.  I decided I wanted to try and do some hunting with it out of my bowstands during regular firearms season so I ordered a new 8" barrel for it.  Since it's kind of dark in there in the woods, I would like a better sighting system than just the irons that are on it.  Any advice on a more accurate sytem for low light hunting that will mount onto the DW, and where a fella might get it?

I have a red dot on my 357max and it does well at sunset and has handled the recoil for the past 4 years.  It's a Burris I got on Ebay used and attached to the shroud with a B-square mount.

How do you like the B-Square mount?  I was looking at the Weigand mount, it is $35 vs $50 for the B-Square.  I have to drill and tap my shroud for the Weigand though.  Is the B-Square a clamp on mount or screw on?

It works fine and hasn't shaken loose in 4 years of heavy use, so I'm happy with it.  I bought an extra shroud when I got the B-square so I can interchange between the scope and an iron sight.  The point of aim doesn't change with the changing of shrouds. Many years ago I had a mod 15 with a Magnum Phantom scope 2x and it was hard to sight in at sunset.  My red dot is 1x and seems quite bright at sunset.

Well, I ordered my Weigand mount yesterday.  I will have to drill and tap the shroud, but no big deal, that doesn't bother me.  Already have the drill and tap on the way as well.  I have been shopping around and the cheapest I can find the Fastfire II with the picatinny mount is at Natchez, so I will probably go ahead and order that today or early next week.  I'm just trying to convince myself that the Fastfire is 100% the route I want to go.

I thought from the title of the post that you were speaking of the Burris "Fastfire" sight. I have them mounted in place of the adjustable rear sights on two guns. I've never been more satisfied with any handgun sight. To my way of thinking a scope makes a handgun very slow and awkward to shoot, heavy and awkward to carry and conventional red dots may even be worse. The Fastfire offers unlimited eye relief, unlimited field of view, have nothing to turn on or adjust, don't interfere with quick point shooting, add no weight to the gun and can be carried in conventional holsters. A scope is probably a bit more accurate but since I can shoot one to one and a half inch groups with my .357 revolver and a bit better with my AMT .22 mag I'll take the advantages of the Fastfire over any scope.

I am talking about putting a fastfire on my 715.  I went with the Weigand mount on the shroud of my 8" barrel, with the fastfire mounted on that.  By doing it that way I can leave my iron sights on the rear in place, so when I swap back to the 4" for home defense I don't have to re-zero.  Each barrel has it's own independednt sighting system.  My fastfire II should be here later this week.  Looking forward to it.
