Is the bear season over? Any one have a successful hunt? This board got real quiet after someones ethics were questioned by another who knows neither the hunter or the circumstance. In my opinion it took a real man to come on a public board like this and tell a story about a poor shot, a bad stick, or whatever you may call it. The biggest buck I have ever shot is one I never found, but unless you were there, keep your opinions about ethics to yourself. In that situation my buck hunt was over, by my choice, but I still had a doe tag to fill. I have learned a lot from redhawk about muzzleloading and handgunning from his posts that I am a bit peeved that a know-it-all canuck has managed to kill this entire forum with one moronic post.

I agree I have no clue to your experiences. It was pretty obvious to me that he was and still is feeling awful about losing that animal. It took a big man to tell the story to the whole world, not just to tell it to his fellow hunters he was hunting with.

I don't think I ever questioned the ethics. If the State is OK with it and the Outfitter was OK with it, so be it. If it bothers him to this day that he lost that bear, I know the feeling, except mine was a huge mulie many years ago. The wolves beat me to him.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Touchy! Me? Right on, if you hit the right spot with me you find yourself in my Ignore list BTW There is a difference in posting an Opinion and playing Judge on what should be posted or not. As far as I know there are only 2 or three people here that have that authority.

As far as I nkw there are only 2 or three people here that have that authority. I am too old to worry about being ignored. I think if you reread his message you will see he was also stating an opinion and in my not so humble opinion you are both being judgmental. Being very opinionated myself I have learned to not take being told where to go with my opinion too personal. You are right, there are only a few judges here and I ain't one of them. I just happened to agree that you were being a bit harsh and judgmental on the other thread.

Well Elmer I agree that my use of the term " poached" was wrong. In the rush to type my opinion I typed the first word that came to mind. The legality of the second bear was the gist of my post not the ethics. Since I addressed this post to you, you can't be on that list

That is why people should research or find out the facts before they post. Because when you assume, you know what happens.
Some guys find it fun to attack other hunters just to make themselves look good, but foolish is more like it to me.

The season is open hear till the end of October (Ontario, Canada). No luck yet, but I'm still trying. The weather is colder than usual though, I'm guessing there won't be too many bears out and about in another week or so. I'm going back to work tommorow after about 6 wks of no work as well, so my time to hunt will be more limited from now till the end of the season. I have finally found an area with lots of bear activity though, so if I don't manage to get one this year, at least I have a head start on next years season.
Good luck to anyone else out there still trying to fill their tag and congrats to those who already have.
Jim
EDIT I made a typo above, the season ends the end of November, not October.

In N.C., where I hunt bears, the season has not even opened yet or at least as far as I know. I sure cant wait to hear the dogs on tree again.
