Just an Idea here, how about a group buy on a 357 max reamer after the group of original buyers use it charge a small fee for its use and donate it to the upkeep of this site?

I've already reamed to MAX but I would be willing to contribute and also contribute to a 445 SM reamer and other tools for a bank of equipment or reamers or other equipment to build some common "Wanted" conversions. 30-30 AI, 307/6mm AI, and what ever came up with high demand from members. Sho is gonna be hard to get the lathe from place to place!  eddiegjr |

Reamer rental $10.00
Postage $ 4.50
Total $ 14.50
Donation to GBO $10.00
reasonable guess as to rentals 20 per year
for a donation of $200.00 per year , although I think the rental numbers would be greater

Doesn't reamers have to be sharpened once in a while? Who would do that without ruining the reamer? I already have a 357 Max, but a 445 Super Mag would pique my interest.

Yes reamers can be resharpened but only once or twice usually. However , no more than a Max reamer will cut out a 357 chamber it should last a very long time turning it by hand and using plenty of cutting fluid.Shipping would be harder on it than the actual cutting process. That being said a nice fitting tube of hose will protect it from the evils of flat rate shipping lol !

I'm in on it. I've got one more to do, and there's no sense letting it sit around as a Mag. I'm thinking too, .357 Handis would be a great gift for certain people on special occasions. Might as well give them a Max.

When I reamed my Mag it looked like the lead in front of the end of the mouth of the case side wall cutter did most of the cutting, forceing cone or whatever. I wonder if the rim sholder on the reamer could be set back with resharpening for a longer life. The back end of tne flutes for the case wall being dull would be an advantage, not opoening up the OD shell case go/ng or ID chamber wall. The working edges are in about the first 1/4 inch or less in front of the side wall flutes. For a ream from Mag to Max anyway.

I'd probably have a use for it also... maybe... I hope... anbody got a 357 Bbl for sale... Have a throat reamer for 45-70. A lot of people could use that! Like Tyler, Jerry, and many, many others! Tyler also has the extention I made so you could use the throater in longer (i.e. 45-120) chambers. |

Ok, Graybeard has given his approval on this, I dunno how other reamer owners want to handle theirs, but for mine I'd like to deal with each "renter" one at a time, send the reamer off to them insured priority mail which costs a little over $7, the reamer would be returned by the same with a $20 money, unless you want to contribute more to GBO which will be arranged up front, I'd keep track of the funds, and send the money accumulated over the cost of the reamer and my shipping costs to Graybeard once the reamer was paid for, and continue to do so as long as the reamer is still working well. This has been done before, only the owner received all the funds for the reamer which was more than paid for, the reamer eventually disappeared due to it being sent from renter to renter instead of back to the owner which doesn't help accountability for the reamer or the funds.
I'm open to suggestions if anyone has em, if you rent a reamer from Elk Ridge or 4D for comparison, the cost is ~$38 plus return shipping.

I think as long as everyone uses a flat rate cost, shipping and donation, and everyone is the keeper of their own tools - just like Tim said - from owner to renter and back to owner.
The only other system I could think of is having someone willing to be the "tool bank" manager, and everyone send their tool to the bank, and the manager is the sole source for rentals and tools are always out from the bank and back into the bank, so none are lost. The bank manager would keep a written journal and report once a month to the forum. FWIW
P.S. I would volunteer to be the tool bank manager as soon as I win the lottery.

What about having a show and tell, instructions or a school at some event like the prarie dog shoot or some other event to instruct some of the techniques in the FAQ's. I would be willing to pay a fee for the schooling if I could get to the event. A lot of the concepts are not easy to visualize, I am a learn by hands on doing type. eddiegjr
