One of the new members has already expressed distaste for my acronym for the group, namely SCRAP (Spanish Cannon Research Associates' Project.)

Maybe a better one given the time of year would be Spanish Cannon Associates' Research Enterprise (SCARE) whaddya think?

I used to invent acronyms when I worked for da gummint.  My first one was for a group that was going to the UK to look at new weapons being developed there.  I called it the Foreign Armaments Review Team, but the bosses didn't like that one too well.

Sol is the Spanish word for sun, which has historical ties to bronze in the ancient world.

So a suitable acronym for your group might be "Spanish Ordnance Laymen (or maybe Lollygag?)."

Conveniently, if you are unable to come up with anything significant on the subject, it could also be the universal acronym.............. SOL.
