Hi
I'm thinking of proposing a new forum and volunteering to be its moderator. Just wondering what are the moderator responsibilites? Thanks, federali

In general the kinda things I'm looking for from Moderators are:

1. On slow forums especially to help generate some traffic by making regular posts and responding to posts made by others if no one else does within a day or so. Just generally help keep things flowing. On Forums that are quite active this isn't so needed but would still be appreciated.

2. Keep an eye out for trouble makers. Folks who might use vulgar language, make personal attacks on other forum posters or call them names. Folks who generate more trouble than benefit to the forum. A Moderator has my full backing in dealing with such situations. You may Edit any post on the forum you moderate so if it is just a matter of a minor edit to fix it so it is acceptable then that's all that might be needed. If a person persists in such though more drastic action is called for. A private message or e-mail might be in order or you could let me know and I can handle it. You can delete posts or entire threads. If the post or thread just has absolutely no redeeming value just delete it. Always let me know of such and preferably copy it to me so I can see who and what is going on. I might want to ban such bad actors.

3. Watch for double posts and delete one.

4. Watch for topics posted on wrong forum and move them to the correct forum.

5. Watch for folks trying to post buy, sell or trade items on the discussion forums. Move them to Classifieds if a member or delete them if they are not a member. All advertisers on the site can make such posts so I will need to provide a list of them to aid in this one.

6. Watch for folks trying to slide in and make a post just to pull folks from my forums to another. This isn't someone responding to another's post offering a suggestion as to where advice they seek might be found. It is more along the lines of someone making a post saying hey come on over to..... Delete such and copy me on them so I can take appropriate action.

Any time you have a doubt about what to do just get with me and I'll help. You're helping me by being a moderator so the least I can do is help you guys when needed.
