Anyone reloading for the 7.62x39 handi. Im sure you could load them non subsonic. (I run mine thru a suppresor)  I have found British 303  200 grain round nose soft points with a magnum primer and 10 grains of trail boss is the way to go.  The trail boss @ 10 grain fills the case all the way up , so no need for fillers.

Im going to try to get a video up on youtube this week shooting a deer with this set up.

I've had excellent luck with 7 grains of Bullseye and a .311" diameter Sierra 180 grain Prohunter, with CCI Large Rifle primer and no filler. In my CZ 527 carbine it delivers 5/8" to 3/4" groups @ 100 yards regularly with very low noise. Not sure if it is a good idea to try these loads on a deer. At these velocities the bullet will probably not expand. Slow velocities on deer are better left to big bore bullets with wide flat noses (45-70). Just my thoughts though.

I gotta agree there, in fact you're just throwing money away using an expensive jacketed bullet for that load.  A soft cast bullet with a gas check in around 200 gr would be what you'd really want.  I shoot a "wheelweight" soft (medium hard) 180gr cast bullet at 1880fps in my 7.62x39.

I tried one low power load - 5.0gr Unique with a 160 gr Lee tumble lube cast - it was still much loader than I wanted.  It was quite accurate & the guys at the range got a kick out of hearing the impact at 75 yards a few milliseconds after the shot.  Had to aim half-way between the crosshair center and the lower 'fat' post in the scope reticle.

I need to try a 200gr .311 & see what I can do.

The rounds are round nose lead tipped . I hunt in the river bottoms and most shots are "bow range" 30 to 40 yards.  This has to be right there at supersonic.  The same load with a 150 grain makes a sonic crack.

I've tried a few recipes from this site.

http://members.shaw.ca/cronhelm/762Page.html

The key for consistant velocity and ignition is using winchester brass (they use large primers) and enlarging the flash hole.

here is a danger/warning page explaining secondary explosive effect when using subsonic loads --> http://members.shaw.ca/cronhelm/DevelopSubsonic.html

Edit:
Sorry for the duplicate links from above.  I didn't read the whole thread, just ran to my bookmarks and copypasted.

Thanks for the links .I thought my intrest in the subsonic ceased when I got ride of the 300 Whisper. But this has sparked some intrest again with the Handi plus I already got the componets. Kurt
