" $217.00 Handi " Pffft Dont I wish !!!
Just checked today on what a bull barrel 308 survivor would cost me and the qoute was $279.00 and $269.00 if i went with the pallet stocked, contoured barrel model .. I'm lucky to find a used beater in my area in the $200.00 range.
As for the new stock it does seem like its hung a little low in the comb ... But it does have more appeal then the boat paddle pallet stock..

I have a hard time believing the $217 price tag when they are selling 24" fluted Varmint 22-250 models for over $350 and I don't think the 24" non fluted wood stocks are a whole lot cheaper to me the $217 is a price cut...are they really cutting the price of these guns or is there some reason this plastic stock is so much cheaper? Is that price firm Tim?

i'm one that falls into the category of liking the polymer stocks. oh, i have plenty of the wonderful wooden furniture rifles and i do like them. but, the polymer stocks are: weatherproof easily worked on and repaired using a variety of readily available epoxies and glues not susceptable to the normal cleaning solvents and oils used in firearms maintenance doggone near indestructable may be painted or shaped easily takes to drilling and tapping and a certain amount of machine work self lubricating very, very solid bi-pod mounting (less likely to have stripped threads) and very easy to epoxy mounting hardware into place for bi-pods less likely to be prone to change POI under damp/hot/cold weather conditions as wood, IF NOT SEALED CORRECTLY, may do although, if you're into CQB rifles, the M14/M1A, M1 Garand, Mausers, Springfields and even the M1 Carbine etc., that all normally wear wooden furniture, will almost certainly deliver a better butt stoke or bayonet thrust than the lighter m16 series rifles but how many out there have to do that other than active infantry? my 700 BDL, Savage 12fv, Ruger 10/22, NEF Sporster, Ruger M77/22 and H&R Ultra Varmint all wear the plastic stocks... i like 'em!

You can get a Survivor from the Dick's Special Order book for $219. At least you could 3 months ago when I last looked.

I live with plastic on my700ML because I have no choice. IMO it's a poor choice for a stock material.

Called them. $239 bottom right of page 47 in the special order book item sb2608 listed as Survivor The way it works at my local store is the special order guy in the Lodge department calls the 3 major distributors to check stock (never do this on Monday, the busiest day for distributors), you put half down and they order it. No FFL fees or shipping, but they charge sales tax. Some guys have coupons. Maybe a week later you come down to pick it up. Takes about an hour to get out the door. No idea why. By the way, depending on what I'm getting, my local hole in the wall can beat Dick's prices, I don't put anything down, no tax for cash, stuff comes in faster, and it takes 5 minutes to get out the door.

I should of known these clowns can't get anything right. I wonder do they look at all these mistakes that they make and just think Oh well it's just a cheap rifle and these guys that buy them ain't very smart anyways. If they ever get someone in there that wants to fix many of the problems that they have with misinformation or just plain wrong information he will have plenty of easy pickens for quite some time...and look like a hero when he gets it right. That new stock is just plain FUGLY Montana , What i like about it is, what i like about that stock on the 870 turkey shotgun (which if this is the same stock as the one on the 870, then it feels great) , Well except that this one isnt factory camo'd yet .. But as one forced to shoot lefty i like that someone is making a thumb hole stock that will work for us lefty shooters too ( god knows no one carving out of wood will make a lefty thumbhole for under $400 ).. And i find that i prefer a AR type pistol grip on my hunting rifle , Which is one major reason i like the survivor stock ... I think i could live with this stock Fugly or not Of course alot of what i think of these will come from handling one. Default

That is why I like the Choate stock so much better it gives you double lugs so you can use your sling and bipod seperately. I prefer the laminate thumb hole stock myself, but I have not seen to many varmint or preditor hunters with just plain wood stocks. Most are either black synthetic, or sinthetic that has been camo'd. Either way some will like these or others like myself will walk away from them.

Price seems a bit excessive.....I wonder what they will really sell for? $250 or less seems like a fair upper price point to me, above that I'll step over to a Savage / Stevens bolt.

Bud's is selling the Handi-Grip rifles for $275 shipped. New stocks are usually available not too long after the new firearm is available, it just depends on how many they have, their first priority is to sell complete firearms, they make more profit on them, same goes for accessory barrels. I can't bad mouth the way that stock looks. Who knows, I might buy one someday and it will come back to bite me. Davidson's Gallery of Guns has been selling what they call the Ultra Varmint Rifle with this stock for several months now. They list the MSRP as $334.30 and through my dealer will sell it for $282.99. Available in .223 or .204, both with 24" bull barrels. Don

I am seriously thinking about ordering one of these in 25-06. I sold my 308 handi last year to fund a 243 for my son to use. Now I only down to 30-30 handi. I have always wanted a 25-06 and I kinda like this new stock. Its different that is for sure.

I'd have to say the stock is definitely different looking. If it fits well and doesn't affect the shooters' ability, in a bad way, I would use one. Looks of the gun don't seem to matter to all of the things I shoot but at times they do matter to me. Has anyone had a chance to shoot with the Handi Grip?
