Glock 24 or 35

I enjoy shooting my Springfield Longslide 45, with a longer sight radius and slightly higher velocity. I am thinking about getting a Glock 24 or 35. I like shooting longer range target and plinking for fun, but not competition (yet).

Are G24's still being manufactured?

Any opinions of G24/35's would be appreciated.

Are there any more KB issues with 40 S&W caliber using factory ammo?

You might check Glock's web site to answer your question on the availability of the 24. I don't think it is currently available. The 35 balances well for me, and is an approved model should you decide to shoot IDPA in the SSP division, or USPSA in Production, or Limited class. The current Glocks have better chamber support than the early models. The are about as well supported as most now days. I sometimes shoot a mdl 22 in IDPA. Shooting reloads, of course.

WFN I am down at the Glock dealer a lot and have never seen a model 24 todate! I am positive you can call Glock in Georgia and get the word but any dealer could give you the same information no doubt.

Thanks for the responses. I will check with Glock about new G24's. There are usually a few NIB G24's at Gunbroker, but I don't know when they were manufactured.

I carry the Longslide .40 and have shot it enough to make the grip slick and shinny in spots.  I love it.  I love Glocks and have never carried anything else on duty.

That said it is a Machine,  all machines need maintenance.  I don't care what others say about how many rounds they have shot through their Glocks without cleaning or new springs or any other claims of greatness.  If you live by it take care of it.  Change the guide rod spring and Mag springs annually.  If you just shoot it at the range then abuse it till it breaks.

The .40 is a higher pressure round than the 9mm and .45.  There are cases of the .40 blowing out the bottom of the unsupported portion of the barrel.  Clean your chamber and don't shoot lead ever in a Glock barrel are the two most common guidance heard.

The Longslide 34/35 are the same length as a standard Govt. .45  so if you can carry a Gov't you can carry a longslide.  The extra length helps with sight alignment and the length also helps with muzzle flip.  Makes the .40 very controllable.  It has a curious cut out on the top of the slide that most mistake as a Compensator.  It is not, it is merely a slot in the slide with no corresponding ports in the barrel.  It is said to lighten the slide and put the weight more into your hand to reduce the muzzle flip.  They will come standard with the 3.5lb connector, extended slide lock and extended mag release.  I swapped the 3.5 for the 5lb and rounded off the mag release with a fingernail board to stop it from rubbing my love handles.

As for the slick frame spots.  I stippled the frame not long ago to fix this.  The grip tape I had on it made the grip a bit thicker and eventually got sticky around the edges.

Fastest time was 4.0 for 8 hits from the holster.  The rest was downwhill from there.

Not bad time from a lvl III thigh rig!    Other than being a little slow out of a belt rig due to the long slide, the 24 should be a shooter!  I carried several uniform duty guns, Glocks included. My choice over anything out there would be a toss up between the 21 and 22. I think I like the 22 a little better. Never carried the 35, but bet it would be a good choice as well. I agree that it's only prudent to keep your business hardware clean and in a good serviceable condition. I have gone through long training days and fired 600+rds in a day without cleaning, and no failures. To be fair, I've done the same with a full size Kimber 1911. If I had a choice of duty pistols, the Glock is what you would find in my holster. I'm sure the 24 is a good choice as well.

Now that's how legends get started.  That is not a Level III, only an Eagle Industries with a thumb strap.  I formed some kydex at the bottom to make it a little more secure but nothing near a Level III.  Did you see the miss with a shotgun?  See, I am not really that good.  They brought a semiauto,  I prefer the 870 and was too fast on the trigger and missed...  Not by much but a miss.

I won't post it but the chief put up a 3.78 and and to mid 4sec runs clean.
