I've been getting interested in 12 ga. again, and I have some questions.
Shopping online I found some slugs made by Federal. They are the Premium Power Shock 12 ga. 1 oz. slugs.
One is the F127ss, and goes 1450 fps.
The other is the F127rs, and goes 1610 fps.
Now, with only a difference of 160 fps between them, the price difference is just over $6.00.
 Why is that?

I also have a couple buckshot questions.
1. What is "buffered" shot?

2. Would no. 4 buckshot be effective on feral dogs, cats, and wild turkeys?

I would be putting the buckshot through a Win. mod 12, with a 28in barrel and a full choke. I did pattern it using some 00 buckshot at 30 yds and am confident it would do the job on dogs. (both 4 AND 2 legged) Just curious about using the #4 buckshot.

I do NOT fire slugs through that model 12.   I have a 1200 Defender for those.

number 4 buck will work on coyotes and bobcats id use something smaller for turkeys like  number 4 or number 6 bird shot buffered shot has a filler in between the pellets can sometimes pattern better as to the slugs i dont think it would make all that much diffrence

Thanks sachel.45.  I'll get some #4 buck and see how it patterns. Maybe try buffered too depending on the price.
I just don't understand how two slugs made by the same company, and that the only difference I could find was one is 160 fps faster than the other differ in price by $6.00   One is 4.47 a box of 5 rnds., and the other is 10.37 a box of 5 rnds.

The f127ss is a saboted slug that looks very similar to the old BRI slugs.  It's used for fully rifled barrels or rifled choke tubes.

The f127rs is a rifled slug not unlike most other foster slugs meant for smooth bore barrels.

Hope this helps.

So it's SS for sabot slug, and RS for rifled slug. That makes sense Thanks a lot.

I patterned the mod 12 with some Remington buffered #4 buck @30 yds. With only 1 or 2 flyers they all went across center mass of a full size human silhouette. Pretty good I think.
