I have a 21", blue, tapered, .22LR Match barrel that has 8 drilled and tapped holes.

4 holes at the chamber end of the barrel for mounting iron sights or a scope rail.  It currently has iron sights mounted.

2 holes at the muzzle end of the barrel for mounting the front sight.  It currently has the front sight mounted.

2 holes about 5 1/2" forward of the four scope base holes spaced the normal .860".  There is nothing currently mounted using these two holes.

I would like to mount a scope rail and move the rear sight forward to the two currently unused tapped holes.  The existing rear sight has the correct hole spacing and will clear the front of the scope rail when mounted but the barrel's taper causes a very small gap between the sight base and the barrel on the outer edges of the sight.  The sight does not rock and seems very solid.

Is this small gap normal or is the existing sight not intended to be moved forward?  If this is not normal what rear sight is correct for this mid-barrel mounting location?

The barrel was not new when I acquired it so the original sights may have been changed.  The rear sight is the same as is currently being provided with a .22LR G2 pistol barrel and regulates (elevation) with the existing front sight at both 50 yards and 100 yards.

I have not been successful at finding any information regarding the various rear sights on the T/C site nor by searching the internet.

Any information on the correct sight would be appreciated.  If what I have is appropriate then all the better.

The following might answer some of your questions regarding the factory sights.

k9jri,  The old 21" carbine barrel came from the factory with the rear sight mounted in the position that you are refering to.  The rear sight will be visable just barely above a scope base(Weaver style) but is useable.  I have see-thru mounts on 22lr and 22Mag 16" barrels(same profile and spacing as 21") and they work very well.  The little gap is present but has never been a problem for me.

Thanks to both of you.  My heights are correct and since the small gap is normal I appear to have the correct sight set.
