I think they discontinued IMR4227 when Hodgdon bought them out. Any you find labeled as IMR should be old and not the same. Now I'd guess but am not sure that if you were to find any packaged and sold since the buy out it likely would be the same.

thanks guys,
if and when i get to test them, i will start low.... as always with any..

"the current imr-4227 is still in production with no intent of discontinue"

thats what my imr distributor says.

i have been using the imr-4227 for many years and am happy with it

currently working with some 460s&w loads from a 20" rifle
here is what a well known reloading expert says.....

(Note H110 & W296 are the same as of 2008 as is HP-38 & W231)
(IMR 4227 is same as H-4227 if made in Australia)
----------------------------------------
200 Grain Barnes XPB .451 dia. (Hodgdon Powder)
    H4227      41.0 gr.   2,077 FPS
    H4227      45.5C gr.   2,238 Max    C=compressed
    Longshot   20.0 gr.   1,752
    Longshot   27.0 gr.   2,161 Max
    H110       45.0 gr.   2,237
    H110       46.5 gr.   2,315 Max

My dealer told me that H-4227 was no longer being produced and when current supplies are gone it's history. Bet someone knows the answer...........

BTW....I have been using IMR-4227 in my longpipe .460 S&W mag with 240 and 300 grain XTP MAG bullets and have found it to be very accurate and not as temperature sensitive as H110/W296.

gendoc ......is that a TC Katahdin barrel? My oldest son had one and we never could find a good load for it, but them we were trying to use a 300 grain bullet.  I'd be interested in what you find.
