Got my new barrells back today and I'm pretty happy right now . I noticed right off 1 mistake they made,I requested scope rails on both ,and the 45 70 had sights installed.I slapped the 45 70 on,run a patch through it, and went outside to shoot it. My head must be deformed because I( for the life of me)could not aim the thing because of the Monte Carlo stock. I shot it anyway and managed a .5 group at 30 yds.with 300gr Win.ammo.
The 280 barrell managed( what I thought) was a respectable 1.4 in. at 100 with Rem green box 150's . I have a good feeling about the 280 that its going to be a shooter. I thought it done very well to have no 0 rings or any thing else done to it. Oh yeh, any body have a no. for the scope base?   Digger

Digger, I'm glad for ya man. I knew that .280 would be something else in that 26" length. And the 45-70 .... .5 at 35 yds.? That ought to blow the eyes right out of Mr. Porker  Smiley  Cheesy
If you wind up ordering a scope rail from H&R you ought to get the Ultra Rail. It has a set screw that goes all the way thru the base to the meet the barrel and balance it out where it extends over the end of the chamber. I liked the one on the 25/06 a lot. Check out Haywire's post on "Drillin and Tappin"

You may have answered one of my questions. I have been told that with the Montecarlo stock I will not be able to see the iron sights on the 45-70 or the Huntman barrel that I ordered. So I ordered a straight stock as well.
