OK, SMNP means something - you're either near me or 500 miles from me (I live 98 miles from Bristol, TN).

Hi Cat Whisperer, GSMNP = Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  I am very new to cannons, just got my first one a couple of weeks ago. It is a golf ball scale Sea Coast 13" mortar made by a gentleman named Tom Peterson. Weighs 85 lbs but still Great fun- I'm currently trying different loads to see what works best for the little beast.  If you will be in the area, drop me a line. I'd love to see what you use. Regards,   Pete

I live in Cypress, Texas just northwest of Houston.  I've been posting for two months.  I'm the wooden gun guy.
I just sold my full scale 10 pounder Parrott (Cannon Limited) with which I re-enacted for ten years.  But I sold it to a real good friend so I still get to play with it.  Just without the cost.  12 OZ. per shot---Ouch!
This is a great forum!

Columbus, Georgia. Site of the last battle of the Civil War. Easter Sunday 1865. War was over for a week, but we didn't care.

Back up there, Palmito Hill out west was the 'official' last battle, a full month after Appomatox. And since Gen. Waite didn't sign a cease fire with the Federals until late June, 1865, becoming the last Confederate land command to lay down arms,  there were likely at least some skirmishes after Pamito Hill.

And the CSS Shennandoah didn't strike her colours and surrender (to the English) until 6 Nov, 1865.

So there!  Grin

You're almost in range, got your lat/long, if it weren't so cold.  We've been here about seven years.  Did 30 years in the Navy so moved to the mountains.  Didn't want a boat so got a field piece.  Life is good up here.

I grew up in a house built in 1906 by a retired sea captain - in GRINNELL, IOWA.   I think he didn't want to see the oceans.
