I got a used 357 Stainless.
Change abused-base, mounts and scope (now: refurbished BSA 4-16x40 AO Mildot).

I was very pleased when sighting the scope at 50yards with 3x 3 shots groups using bipod.

Pleasant light rifle, low recoil with home cast 150gr SWC at ~1040fps (5 shots chronoed, reload is under development).

Nice little Rossi there. It should compliment your 30-30 Handi well, as I see you use quite a bit of cast. Sometimes it don't all have to be expensive to shoot good. Thanks for posting the pics.

I mostly use cast, with great satisfaction. I barely use Manufactured (FMJ) ammo when beginning with a new gun.

I enjoy this tiny rifle. I've some difficulties to find singleshot, so i grab this one quickly. I was quite surprise to get a "reduced" Nef, but the finish wasn't bad, the lock is tight and the barrel seems OK. After some cleaning, changing base, rings and scoped with a new scope I'm the proud owner of a "fine" rifle.

The same day, i bring to the range another rifle for sighting. A new (for me) high $ rifle in 300 Sav scopped with a Weaver T24, honestly i didn't get more pleasure.  (Yes, I'll cast for this one too)

I think that R357S isn't far from reality. An old one, without Manual safety.
There isn't much reading on the rifle, except Rossi 357mag, serial number, and proof marks.

I ran a search on the Rossi web page .

model R357b is discontinued but they had all the info about the gun.I bought this one about 3 years ago new in the box a pretty good shooter.

I like  a 357 rifel with cast bullets. Almost as much fun to cast the bullet as it is to shoot them. Are you using plain base or gas checks?   You might want to try some littlegun as a powder the 357 realy likes it .at least mine does. It is not a Rossie or a NEF,but i think the powder choise is still valid. good luck, and just curious what mold is it that you are using?   D.C.

Well then I guess it was not a valid choise after all. What ever you are using does seem to be doing the trick. I have been useing  158 g rf pb . A buddy of mine has the mold you are using. I might trade him some bullets and see  how these shoot for me. Good luck on the load development. D.C.

I bought my R357S a couple years ago new.  Mine has a safety lever on left side of receiver, and straight comb butt stock, and also open sights the rear sight being cheap plastic with no elevation but easily replaced with a T/C Contender rear sight (ebay $5).   It's a fun plinker burning up cheap 38 Special, but also has accounted for numerous heads of game using 158 JSP 357 mag loads.  It's companion is a Rossi 971 stainless steel K-frame clone 357 mag.  These Rossis are great shooters for the buck that i'd recommend to anyone on a budget.
