I love the gun, but have had to move the rear sight all thw way to the left to get it to group on paper, read on here where others have had the same problem and turned out to be the front sight canted to the side. I looked at mine today and it is canted to the right.

Will I have to send the entire gun back?

Should I send it back and have it fixed?

Should I just have the barrel shortened and add a scope and go on with it?
(I think quickdtoo has one like this)

You can drift the sight side to side with a brass tool. Check the FAQ's.

More than likely they'll have to replace the barrel, they need the entire rifle in that case so they can fit the new one. Contact H&R and let em know, ask them to send you a return shipping label to cover shipping costs, toll free (866)776-9292.

The dovetail is cut so the sight post isn't vertical, it's cut so one side is lower, it's not uncommon on BC Carbines.

I know this is an old topic of mine but......
I called H&R and they said send it back, didn't offer to pay shipping etc. I love this gun, but don't know if I want to go through the hassle of sending it off for a repair(Worried about the stocks getting messed up, etc.

I am thinking of having the barrel shortened and recrowned, a recoil pad fitted, and scope it. It would definitely give me a prettier gun than a pallet wood gun.

Or should I sell it and let the buyer worry abut sending it back? I would tell them about the sight up front.

Has anybody ever done this and regretted it?

You could put a cheaper stock set on it temporarily if you have one, I'd ask them to send you a prepayed UPS shipping label, they don't normally volunteer to do that, but they will if you ask. But if you're going to shorten the barrel and scope it, the front sight issue is moot.

FWIW, I dont have the sight issue on my 38-55 TM, just decided if I cant see 'it' I cant hit it, so I swapped out the BC stocks for my Ultra Varmint set and put on a scope. What a difference(!) in looks and shooting for me. I LIKE it!
So, if you dont see a need for the front sight just pop it off and install a blank, rather than cut it down, and give it a go with the scope to see what you think.
