I confirmed today that long time GBO member and Moderator of this forum Lawdog has passed away. I got this message from his family in replay to my query asking if the rumors I had heard were true.

Quote
Yes, Gary passed away late Thursday, January 12, 2006.
Services will be in Lakeport, CA on January 24th at
the LDS church.

I don't know his real name, nor what he looks like, but I've always enjoyed Lawdog's posts, well thought out and well written.  It is strange to know I will miss a man I never really met, or maybe I did "meet" him in a certain way.

My sympathies to the family.

I didn't always agree with him but I appreciated  his input.  I came here often just to read what he had to say.

My condolences to his family.

He and I shared a fondness for quarterbores, and Barnes bullets.
I will miss his contributions to the GB forums.

It's pretty obvious how many feel about Lawdog. For myself I think we always got good opinions and advice and I greatly value that. Thanks Lawdog wherever you are. I don't know you and still miss you!

I was thinking, maybe his name as moderator has come off a bit to soon. Some more than earn the right to hang around, even when they've left the room. What do you say Graybeard? How about leaving his name there a bit longer?

More than once I got into some pretty "heated discussions" with Lawdog.
We agreed stongly in some gun matters & disagreed alot especially on some non-gun issues, but I respected his opinions. In one of those spirited
discussions, I told him in my post something to the effect that I would
rather have his friendship than state my complete feeling in the matter &
he concurred. I wish that I could have met him. My prayers & condolences
go out to his family & I will miss his input.

I can't seem to get a new topic to post right now so I will add this here for now and as a new topic later when I can.

Guys I have been contacted by Lawdog's daughter Desiree. I will quote her below:

Quote
Bill,

I am Gary's daughter, Desiree.  Several members on
your board or list, sorry I don't know what it is
called, have writen to my mom asking if there is
anything they can do.  I know that she will never say
anything, but father did not have any insurance
because of his medical condition so mom has no means
of which to bury him.  I have applied for a line of
credit against my house to cover the expenses.  I do
not have much hope that I will get it due to the fact
my own credit was distroyed when my own husband passed
away a little over 5yrs ago leaving me and our
children with no income for 6 months.  Gary's real
name is Gary L. Reinhardt his final arrangements are
being handled by Chapel of the Lakes 1625 N. High St,
Lakeport, CA 95453 (707) 263-0357

So guys this looks like it might be a good time for those who considered Gary a friend here at GBO to step up and help the family with the funeral expenses. I've asked Desiree to provide me a full name for either her or her mom and a mailing address so we can send cards and money. When I get it I will either post it or mine or perhaps Gunrunner's as he has volunteered to handle the matter also.

Will tell you more when I know more.

I read this thread with a lump in my throat and a wet twinkle in my eyes.

Lawdog, you will surely be missed.

To Lawdog's Family, MAY GOD BLESS AND COMFORT YOU AS ONLY HE CAN.

While I haven't been a member of this board long enough to really have a relationship with Gary I send my heartfelt condonlences to all of his family members.  Given that his services are being held at an LDS church, as a fellow member I wish all the blessings of Jesus Christ upon him in paradise and hope that all of his family will be able to take comfort in the Eternal Plan of Salvation.  That they are blessed by the sealing that binds his family together forever.  My prayers are with you.

Wow, honestly its a little odd that I was saddened over the loss of someone I didnt know personally/never met, Ive never experienced this before.

He will be missed indeed.

Let us all do our best to ease the pain of his family members by helping in any way we can.
