Are you getting errors every time you use the search function? Well if so then this is for you.

When using Search you should always choose the “Advanced” option. This allows you to select which forums you want to search and greatly improve your search time and relevance by searching just the forums that might contain the information that you are looking for. By searching this way the chance of getting the old “Page Not Found” error is slim to none. Also you should use the “Match All” if you are looking for a specific word or words. Only use the “Match Any” if you are unsure of the proper name or title of what you are looking for.

The Check All link at the bottom of the Advanced Search will check and un-check all of the forums at one time making it easy for you to select only the ones that may have what you are looking for. I do not suggest searching all forums at one time. We have over 160 forums at GBO and over 500k posts. This makes searching GBO a monster task and when many people search all forums at the same time this slows GBO down. Now none of us like it when the site is running slow do we... so lets all do our part to help keep the site running smooth by surfing it smart.

You should also read the Help Section for Searching; it has great info and screenshots of how to perform smart searches. So give it a look see and I think you will be surprised how easy it really is to surf the new software here at GBO.

Thanks
Matt

Matt,

How bout either making the "Check All" unchecked as default and/or moving it to the top of the page with all the other criteria so we don't have to scroll down, up and back down the page making our selections?

Thanks,

Tim

Matt,
Every time I try to do a search, I get redirected to the index page. This happens whether I press the blue search button, enter a topic in the search opening and click search, or going to the advanced search. What am i doing wrong?

Don, you're not doing anything wrong other than using the search feature, it's been turned off until Matt can fix it so it works right.

With the exception of the google search, there is no search feature, the forum software search is disabled, it was the only way to search a specific forum.

If it is my ignorance please excuse but I have yet to find a way to search a specific forum. Anytime I do a search it searches the entire site not just a specific forum.

The new version of the software will be out by the end of the month and it has a much improved search feature. We will upgrade the software to the new version as soon as it is out.

We've added the Google search back to the Forums Index Page. Use it for searching the GBO site for now. It seems to have completed the processing of the site and it appears that all results you get back will now open. We were having some limited problems with that before but it seems to have cured itself.
