This poll shows the problem NEF has when considering a new caliber offering.  There were only a few calibers that have more than 1 or 2 votes.  For example, I would love a 6.8 SPC in a Superlight, just to add to the list.  We all want something in particular, but very few of us want the same thing.  Some of the calibers could use bore sizes they have already, like my 6.8 (.277), at least those would be a little easier.  Those that would require a new bore size would be more costly for NEF to produce initially.  This also makes the 7.62x39 attempt NEF made all the more surprising they tried it, they did not already have .311 barrels around from another caliber.

That said I'll also throw my hat in for the 30-40, with open sights please.

Gee, I just wish NEF would fill there orders from wholesalers for the .35 Whelen.  Neither Bill Hicks nor Accusport ever got any(which they ordered) before they discontinued 'em due to the "lack of interest". Huh

The Whelen was discontinued due to problems with factory ammo, and probably compounded by poor chamber specs.  Undecided

But if you want one, they're available.

I would love to see the .35 Rem and the .460 S&W. Just for fun how about the 6.8 SPC  Grin

I'll cast another vote for the 6.8mm SPC.

I think the most important thing handi-lovers could get NEF to do is start making 26" barrels standard issue..........26" singles are balanced...still short overall..and well suited to open sights or optics..........barrels can always be shortened if desired....and all current calibers ,plus a new one every year or so would be eaten up like candy by all of us handi-holics. I know it's all finance and profit line but handis are soooo affordable that I don't understand why a small price increase and a major deal with an out fit like Green River could be anything but a good deal for Marlin.................Norm

ok, it has been about a year since i stated my case, and now, with a complete list of calibers i head to the library and then to the computer/typewriter and then to the aforementioned retired executive from bushmaster.....

i want to compare loaded ammo sales to reloading die sales

then, get a line on how much a falling block action with switchable bbls could be made for versus just bbls for the handi rifles in some of these odd calibers

i gotta admit though, i am pretty much enamoured of the handi action and design, much better to manipulate than the mossberg ssi-one ( i have one in 30-06 ) and love it but it is a little adward to manipulate through the unload reload cycle.

How about a 28" octagon barreled Ultra Handi...outfitted with a vernier tang & globe front sight...Just think what it could be provided the chamber/throat/leade/bore where minimum spec'd and the rifling the correct twist...and the breech & receiver were trued...had at least xxx burled walnut...and a fully polished & quality blueing job on it...Yes...I would gladly pay what they asked for one...in a heart beat...no matter what the caliber...

In a rifle barrel I think a 25-20 would probably be the best seller, simply because it would put you in the unique position of offering a still relatively popular nostalgic cartridge in the only sub-gazillion dollar range.  I'd buy one. Probably pay as much for it as I did my BC, more even.

But honestly, as much as I'd love to be able to buy some different rilfe calibers, I think the smartest marketing strategy would be to offer pistol barrels and a pistol stock and forearm for existing actions. I still can't understand why someone at H&R hasn't seen the oppurtunity to compete with a lower cost competitor to the Contender as a smart option.

Hello Folks , love this site.  I too would like to see the 30-40 Krag, and also the 358 Win. or maybe the old .35 Win. seeing as I have a neat lil 38 s&w cartridge adapter for it that I am dying to use . Smiley And perhaps a .327 Federal mag and/or a .22 CCM . just some idea

I would love one in .260 Rem. with a 26 to 28 incher. I have shot 25s for many years, but this 260, 6.5mm just seems to do a better job, with less recoil. Figure I will have to make it unless Big Green will get with it or someone soon.

The heck with new calibers, although some would be nice.
I just wish they would get their act together and clean up the ones that are curently available.
Make the chambers to speck and make them all the same.
One throat lenght (45/70) one bore diamater (38/55) quit changing twist rates (223 1 in 9 instead of the old 1 in 12) you get the picture.
I am sure there are others.
Also a little more uniformity in the barrels themselves as far as fitting is concerned (to tight on this frame but to lose on that frame).

If I had to pick a new caliber and the WSMs are out than it would be a 307.
Nothing wrong with the 308, I just like the rimmed cartridges.

How about offering some of what they have in "grades".  I would go for one with a nice stock with roll over, and POLISHED barrel to match the receiver, some deep dark blueing, etc.   Yeah, I know it would cost more, but I just like pretty thangs'!

...Can anyone tell me what the overall/latest results of "most wanted" and/or "fantasy" caliber(s) wanted in the handi rife "Polls" have been.....have a friend who is a retired exec of a firearm firm in my home town and am considering going into a manufacturing venture with him.....need "ammunition" such as this to make my "business plan" proposal to him....he has the bucks and the connections and I have the passion....now I need the information to make sound marketing decisions.....and a profit.....

what  is the status  of your  plan
i  think  i would  see  if they would sell you barreled actions   bored  but not chambered
then  just chamber...cut barrel to length...stock......sights or  scope rail

ALL  TO  ORDER

how  about a line  of  16 inch  scope ready
in  all pistol calibers
they already have fire power in their handgun
this will give them accuacy

Well other than the fact it is rumored that the Remington Companies are up for sale, perhaps they (Remington ) would make up Custom Shop Offerings for their demented Handiholics , that want - need  treatment of a more expensive nature. With all the reamers available the sky (and non belted) should be the limit.

7.62X25, 327 Fed., 25-35, 250-3000, 257 Roberts, 260 or 6.5X55, 7X57, 7-30 Waters, (got mine), 8X57, 35 Rem, 338 Marlin Exp or 338 Fed or 338-06.  Make the chambers tighter, the bores the right size for available  bullets, Octagon barrel would be fantastic and getting to the point that you can just order a barrel with out sending the frame in to be fitted would be the best present of all, Santa!  DP
