25-20

250 Savage (I just heard from Wayne York. If I buy a 22 Hornet barrel and send it to him, he will give it back to me in 250 Savage for $325. I am having trouble with the math: $150 for the barrel plus $325 for smithing equals $475 for a barrel to put on a $250 rifle Huh I think his price is fair, and his work gets praised as worth the cost...but maybe I need to settle for a 243 ?)

23-35

327 Federal (would shoot 4 cartridges ! 32 short, 32 long, 32 H&R, 327 Fed) What better company to chamber a firearm for the 32 H&R ? I can't figure out why they haven't capitalized on this bit of their legacy.

357 Maximum

35 Remington

375 Winchester

I think single shots and rimmed cartridges are made for eachother, and that being said I'd like to see a handi in 405 Winchester, and 9.3 x 74R, and maybe even one in 50-110 in a bull barrel.

I have often said the same thing conserning rimmed cases/cartridges.  Its not founded in extraction problems with rimmless calibers in ejector handis. There is just something that seems "right" about older, rimmed calibers in single shots. (oops, I said it again. Roll Eyes )

its not been mentioned for a page in a half.. A 25/35 would be great. Even better in a long tappered octagon barrel with a good set of buckhorn or ladder open sites!!

there is no better conversion of a 30-30 barrel (if you want something different than the tried and true 30-30) than to a 30-40 Krag. And it is rimmed to please those that do not like rimless cartridges in a Handi. For me the rimless cartridges all seem to work great, no problems here. However I do agree that for nostalgia, a rimmed cartridge in a Handi does just look right....<><....Smiley

Never shot one, what's the advantage of 30-40 over 30-30?

Or a 25-06 with youth loads using Hodgdon's 60% rule with H4895.  Wink

Thanks again, Tim ! I missed this great tip from Hodgdon somehow. No matter what I think I know,or am into, there is always somebody who knows more, and is way more into it ! Around here, that usually seems to be you.
Great idea about loading down the 25-06. I did the same thing with the 22 Hornet. I want one, but so far, I am satisfied with loading my 223 with Hornet bullets at Hornet velocities, and I sort of have one already.

Hey CW, I have often wondered about this. The conventional wisdom is that break actions of both the single and double barrel persuasions "need" rimmed cartridges for reliable extraction. Yet the Handis (and the Ruger and Remington single shots) seem to have no problem with rimless cartridges, even the extractor models.

So why the idea that single shots cartridges "have" to have a rim ?

.260 Remington, .338 Federal or .338 Marlin, .358 Win, .35 Rem., and I an thinking 8 x 57 has merit (there is an R version, too)

The problem with some of the unusual calibers is there are few guns offered, so ammo sales are low, so few guns are chambered for "unpopular" rounds................on and on
