I doubt that it will ever happen, but a Handi chambered in 6X45 (.223 with neck expanded to 6mm) would be a very interesting and useful chambering to play with. The 6X45 started life as a very easily made wildcat chambering for bench rest competition. It's a very efficient chambering which can approach 2700 fps with a 90 grain bullet. It's also known for providing long barrel life.

Is a 9mm Luger chambered Handi.  I can't think of a better plinker and flinch trainer with more whap factor than a .22.  Cheap ammo, I just wonder if it has the recessed primer problem of the 7.62 x 39 since it is primarily loaded for semis to reduce slamfires.  Are you listening Marlin?  I need a 9mm barrel for Christmas!

 Wink

My list is pretty Simple:

1) A RIMMED cartridge to be developed by Marlin/H&R that has 30.06+ level performance (30 cal., 180-220 gr. bullets at close to 3000 fps) to make the design a single-shot, long-range big game gun. Likely based (like Elmer Keith's wildcat for single and double rifles) on Euro 9.3x74R brass. With the Handi design, rimmed is just flat more reliable...

2) A high-end rifle with the metal hardware and the special-run grey laminate checkered stocks.

3) On this high-end rifle, add the much desired low profile hammer and WELD a scope rail on.

4) A 24" standard profile barrel, to get the most out of the cartridge without being as front heavy as 26" guns.

5) Roll ALL the above into a single gun!

1.  For them to make another batch of steel trigger guards and forearm spacers.
2.  A factory custom shop with blank chambers so we can order a cartridge in what ever flavor we wanted - given workable pressures and twistrates for our selected cartridge.
3.  More 24" and 26" barreled rifles.
4.  1-in-18" or 1-in-20" twist 44mag/444Marlin barrels that slug to .428-.429"
5.  More rimmed cartridges{insert personal opinion= rimless are for autoloaders and boltguns}{/end opinion}
6.  A rounded hammer instead of the squared stock steel(custom shop option)
7.  Extra fancy walnut or other fine wood options on the custom rifles.

I know this thread is getting old, but I just couldn't stand it any more.  Hopefully, somebody at H&R/NEF reads these & might realize they could PROFIT from some of these suggestions.

Since Hornady started loading 9.3x74R - how 'bout a Handi in that!!  Better yet, make it a EURO/AFRICAN CLASSIC along the same lines as a BC - 26" to anything up to 30" barrel.  Those 9.3x74R cartridges look wicked!!  I'd love to play with some cast bullet loads for that.  I wouldn't even care that it wasn't a double rifle or drilling.

I, to would like a .44Mag with a .44Mag barrel (.429").

I like rimmed cases in Handi's, but any 6.5mm bore would float my boat as well.

Also, design a cartridge holder that has the same outside dimensions on the outside, cut out the center of the plastic/fiberglass buttstock, and make the cartridge holder snap into it.  If all the boxes are the same outside dimension, the carrier will fit, no matter what barrel you switch to.  If it's hinged - even better.  I don't want to have to unscrew a bolt on the buttplate (Survivor), or stick a buttstock cartridge carrier made of black elastic cloth - I don't like having bullets sticking into my face if I switch shooting shoulders.  The "Tamer" stock design is real close!  Toss the .410 or 12 ga carrier & put in something that would work.

I don't want them to change too much cause the main thing I like is the price. But I really NEED a barrel chambered for the new Federal 338.

I'm late to this party, but I'll chime in with echoes of what some others have said:

Chamberings I'd love to see:
7.62x54R that will handle surplus ammo
.460sw or .454 casull

There won't be either a .50BMG or a WSM, TC or Bullberry won't even chamber an Encore in any short mag caliber.

With the marketing to women and youth in mind, here's a basic offering missing from an excellent line:
Youth Handi-Rifle frames (existing caliber choices) with a laminated wood or walnut hardwood stock (not Monte Carlo or Synthetic), that I can order 20 ga. and 12 ga. barrels for with screw in chokes (modified, turkey, etc.). Ported shotgun barrels optional.

Octagon 30-30, BC, and 38-55 Target, with brass furniture.  And add the 6.5X55, or it's clone, a 260 Rem.  The option for a walnut MC stock would also be nice.

I would like to have a handi in 7-30 and I would also like a 20 ga tamer in a blued finish. I know I should just be happy to grt it at all in a 20ga. but I really like the blued finish. I want one more thing a 44 mag that atleast has the right size bore. How hard is that one. You might even sell a few and have pepole be happy.

I'd like to see H&R/NEF put a little more thinking onto some of thier decisions, this thing about the .44 Mags made with the wrong size bore is a real baffler. Why in the heck would someone authorize that error to begin with, and then when it was discovered why is it allowed to continue? Someone should have been at least spoken to about that glaring error, AND it should have been corrected immediately, but no, they allow it to continue!!! DUMB!!! and poor business practice....<><.... Sad

So far it seems most of our wants are reasonable.

Right sized bores and twists.

Longer barrels for certain calibers.

Wider varity of stocks and barrel configs.

And expand, at least just a little, the caliber selection.

Sounds like one of the bigger reasons for none of this is the lack of space they work in. I haven't actually been to the factory, but it seems to me from all reports they need to upgrade!

Just in case H&R is listening & looking for ideas for their 2007 line up...

I'd like to see the Youth Model Handi's offered in boxed set combos that have a .223 barrel included with the .243 and 7mm-08 offerings.

I have an SB2-Y08 on order for my daughter, but I'd have ordered the 7mm-08/.223 combo in a heartbeat.
