Recoil pad - grind to fit
« on: December 05, 2011, 03:04:31 PM »
I bought one of those grind to fit recoil pads for my Mauser 7-08 on a Fajen stock.  The pad is larger than the stock and dips below the toe about a half inch.  Do I have to grind it to fit to be legal?  Seems to me it would reduce felt recoil more being larger.  I don't really care what it looks like.  Thoughts?  Not that anyone cares where I shoot, because they are fun vs. sanctioned matches.  Still it would be nice to know it would be legal.

I think I found my own answer on some site with NRA rules.  The pad cannot be below the toe and the toe cannot be more than 7 inches below the center of the bore.  Looks like I'll be doing some grinding of at least the part below the toe, which is at 7 inches.  Not sure if the sides matter other than the pad be centered, which it is.
