Loading 20 Gauge CCS Sabot Slugs
« on: January 10, 2012, 06:44:29 PM »
Has anybody loaded 20 gauge CCS sabot slugs with good results. Searches turn up old threads from five years ago but no posting of final results. I've got a Savage 220F that I want to load for but it takes a substantial bit of cash to get set up to load slugs. It sure would be nice to hear some success stories before jumping in with both feet.

300grn XTP with Emma's sabot.  at 100yds.   Your results may very. Although we switched to 250grn

250grn Hornady FTX at 50yds.  We don't use the powders they suggest either.  We get 1700fps out of the Savage with this bullet.
It's pricey getting started with all the stuff you need to start doing this, but a lot cheaper than buying factory loads.

Swiftman,
Those are the kind of results I was looking for. Did you switch to 250gr to flatten the trajectory past 100? Did you find that 3 inch hulls shoot better? I don't want to bend your ear but any detailed info you're willing to share would by greatly appreciated by me. I realize that some guns are shooters and some are not but at least now I know I have a fighting chance of working up an MOA or nearly MOA load. Right now my Savage 220 is my only gun I don't load for and it bugs me.
Thanks a bunch
Ed P

swiftman,

Is your slug gun a 12 or 20 ga?

Why be difficult, when with a little extra effort you can be impossible?
