who. . . .me???
there ain't much to tell. . . .
nature doesn't scare me.
only three times in my short
life has anything got to me.
one was that
one time i was squirrel hunting alone with
a single-shot small bore pistol and topped
a ridge to be face-to-face with a pack of
about 12-15 feral dogs ( you know. . .the
dogs folks get tired of and dump in the "country"
and they revert back wild) and me with
one teeny shot. they looked and growled and
wandered off and i went back to camp.
the next was when i finally saw a panther while
deer hunting on my place. the thing came out of
the treeline absolutely silent, very very slowly
circling the blind where i sat, and crouched slow
slow slowly into the knee-high grass about 25 yards
away, and it was as if the thing melted and ran into
the ground. i watched that spot solid for about 15
minutes, then i finally had to make my way over there
to that spot, staring the whole time. while i had sat
watching, that thing managed to slip away from that
little spot with zero cover or no noise or sign whatsoever.
it apparently was looking for the deer that the doe scent i
put out made it think was there.
that something like that could move with such stealth and
with zero noise shook me bad.
there ain't all much to tell about the yeti or whatever.
my friend and i were camping on the ok.-ark. border
pretty deep in the ozarks in the bush, and saw one.
the trailer was about 7 feet at the tallest point, and
it's eyes were several inches above that. we packed
up in a hurry and left. two grown men didn't imagine
the same thing, and we weren't drunk or high. there
isn't anything else to tell, other than seeing that thing
scared 2 grown-ups to their core and they left.
we talked and joked about it for a long time, but
it still scared both of us, and we would change the
i wish there was more to it, and i could say we saw
the thing board a ufo and fly off, or that it went
back underground through a hidden stone doorway
to a ancient underground indian city or something
like that, but it didn't.
we saw it- it scared the poop out of us- we hauled
