I am new to black powder shooting and need an answer before I accidentally end my career much too early. I have heard that you should never mix powders...OK! I have also been told by people at Blackhorn that their 209 will not work in a Hawken .50 because the ignition is not hot enough to ignite it...OK! Question: Could I just put a few grains of FFG (5 or so) down the barrel first then follow it with the 209, using the ffg as a sort of secondary primer to ignite the 209. I want to use 209 if possible because of it's cleanliness and less fouling? Anybody know if this would work or not.... without alluding to my level of education? :-) Thx.
