FWIW - Although one of my favorite calibers.(as well as .357 Max)..I've ran lots of 444 Marlin factory ammo over chrono's and the only one that ever broke 2300fps in any of the 5 diff 22" barrels I had. was Hornady Light Mag/Superformance @2335fps avg. The factory 265 Leverevolutions ran 2195fps. My handloads (Handi- only COL's) pushed 265FTX at 2350fps, but again way over listed maximum.

The 444 Handi shot a couple 2.5" groups @ 200yds and the 2 Marlin 444 leverguns I had printed 3.25" to 4" @ 200yds. This was good enough for me then but, I've since replaced all 3 of them with .450 Bushmaster bolt guns which print consistent 2" groups at 200 yds with factory 250 FTX ammo and chrono at 2250fps in my 22"(2185fps in 2 diff 16" barrels).
Lighter, faster handling and more accurate at longer ranges. I find the short /light Bolt guns almost as fast as the heavier Marlins afield.

Iv'e partaken in numerous 444 vs 450BM arguments, as well as 350L vs 357 Max arguments. No matter how much love is felt for the 444 MArlin and .357 MAx, they both have had more nails driven in their coffins with these two new bolt action/Semi-Auto/repeater compatible calibers.

The final nail is the ammo availability and price. 444 Marlin ammo runs $40 box or better....
.450BM is everywhere for $25-30

.350Lengend-$20-25

.357 Mag Shorty
.444 Marlin
45-70 Smokeless MZ
.50 Huntsman

Yeah, I wasn't even going to get into hotrod handloads, just the original 240 grain factory loading for the .444 @ 2400 fps.

And right now it seems that according to most all accounts that $20-$25 a box Legend ammo needs to be pulled down and refined in more than a couple aspects to get a box of respectable rounds. Not so cheap after accounting for your time and labor really.

Still living under the curse, but one of these days I will shed this body, be clothed with an immortal one, and everything will be good.

Yeah, those .460's were a kick in the shoulder. I think the .350 and .357 max is a lot more fun to shoot.

All of my favorite creatures have white bottoms.

Speaking to a bullet that WILL COME APART!!!

I shot some of these in my Cassull at less than 2K fps and they where a grenade!!

I dont have a 460, but I do have a 450 Bushmaster. Its a good shooter, more powerful than what I “need” it for. I have been loading it “down” to medium Cassull loads a d enjoying it allot more.

yup and I shot ONE deer with a factory loaded 240 444 at 40 yards and probably got 3 good meals out of it.

I had good results with the Rem 240 load SP in the 444 on deer, but preferred the 265fp and ftx from hornady.

The .460 in rifles had a reputation for being tough to keep acceptable accuracy as velocities increased.
I avoided the caliber and stuck with pushing .452 bullets out of Smokeless MZ’s. By eliminating the case, things become so much easier...
Was confined to one shot, but the accuracy was always better than any other legal deer calibers I owned beyond 200 yds.
