Default Rear Sight Options for Long Distance

Just purchased a H&R 1871 Buffalo Classic .45-70 Rifle comes with the standard Williams Rear Peep Sight and Lyman Front Globe.

I am brand new to this and I am wanting to shoot targets at distance. From my research this rifle seems to be a good entry point without investing significant dollars. That said it would appear my next investment will likely be to change out the Williams Rear Peep Sight if I want to shoot past 300 yards.

I would be grateful for any suggestions/recommendations especially cost effective ones

Thanks, Retreever

If you decide to replace the rear sight, I would be interested in buying it.

There are more long range sight links in the FAQs sticky ( on GBO reloaded), you can get past 500yds with a lower front sight (Lyman 17A .404") and the Williams FP-TK.
