Trotter Special 32/20 Fun day-cb753517-84e0-4e5c-80d6-96f5df8b628f_1584404038221.jpeg

I have been neglecting my H&Rs a lil bit this past year.

I have a friend who casts and we have been swapping (borrowing) molds from each other.
I a 35 cal nut and he had a MP 220 HP. Only he grabbed a 31-140 HP my mistake. I took mold and didn’t even open for a few days. When I did... I saw it was wrong but the window to correct was closed for a month (when I see him again)

So with my up coming 327 firearms I hoped it might work and cast a few hundred simply cause I was ready to cast alloy mixed pot warmed when I knoticed the Mold was wrong.

Anyhow mold cast beautifully and produced a nice bullet. It was quickly apparent non std practices where needed to utalize this profile ina. Revolver cylinder. But my mind flashed to my Trotter spl!! A single shot don’t grumble much over length changes. Plus the twist of the SMLE take off bbl likes longer projectiles.

It was some six months till I actually loaded some I was on and off looking for data. (There is none) Saturday I decided AA1680 was the answer. Dinny and I have been losing it in the Maxi testing bullets and he has found he cannot get too
Much in a maxi case. I find same in the blk our & legend cases. It’s a slow powder and the 32/20 has slightly less volume than a BO case. Then taking into account the strength of the SB2, So I was pretty safe.

I started @ 9g just to be safe. Stopped at 12g. This proved to be right at the bottom of the seated bullet.
I shot three shot groups and ran everything over the chrono @ 50 yards.

Bullets are +- 140g hollow pointed and powder coated plain base. S&B SR primers used for all.

9 = 1100 FPS (avg)
9.5= 1160
10= 1300
10.5= 1380
11= 1420
11.5= 1480
12= 1530

Accuracy was about same. Worst was 1.60 best .75. Worst groups has large jump in velocity and that bullet jumped outside group. Most all groups had two bullets touching or overlapping or very very close. 11.5 & 12 had wide velocity spikes. Telling me they are too hot and it’s possibly pressure spikes. I haven’t seen this with 1680 as a common occurrence.

I think I’ll stay at 10.5 g and nearly 1400 FPS. That’s darn respectable. Now I am absolutely sure this is ABOVE 32/20 specks!!!! DONT USE THIS DATA IN A WEAKER ACTION!!!

In my case although I have other 32/20 including a costly COLY SAA. It’s far too long to fit in the cylinder. Also too long for my Marlin, 1892 Winny or my Savage 23.

140g @ 1400 is better then 357 Mag ballistics for same weight!! That makes this a very handy HANDI for larger small game and even calm deer up close.

Being cast and a HP AND POWDER COATED. I have the world at my feet. Harder softer and anything in between.

I haven’t been seeing eye to eye with Photobucket. So sorry although I do have pics. Cannot post.

Trotter built guns are living on and are well
Liked! THANK YOU LARRY!!

Ya gotta love those little .32-20 Trotter Specials! I've been using the 125 gr, Sierra Prohunter .311 Spitzer in mine over 15.8 gr. H110 for 2060 fps. COL 1.950.

I use a 100 gr Cast RN going half as fast in my Uberti 1873 Cattleman .32-20.

The Marlin 1894CL .32-20 takes a 100 gr. XTP over 15.0 gr. H110 for 2200 fps.

In the Maxi, (while the supply lasts) 180 gr. Hornady SSP over 23.7 gr Lil Gun 2095 fps.

Brian, those are nasty looking little suckers! Would not want to be on the receiving end of one! If I had another 25 years to play with guns I'd learn powder coating. I think I'd like it.

I’m having difficulties with pics.
It’s a iPhone thing. I don’t have a puter accessible. When I paper
Clip the photo sometimes it drops out of the screen and although I can “swipe up” to reveal “handles” is rolls back down consealing them. I can usually get two pics not always.

So sorry for the extra post with just a pic.

Love ya send ya some Pete!!

I am going to borrow this mold again probably next month. I’ll cast and coat extra and get ahold of ya then.

Seems to me to be a optimal projectile for these SMLE barrels.

I believe I bought one of the last barrels he built before going MIA. He had it listed on eBay
I won the auction. After the auction I messaged him and asked what forearm it would take to fit my Contender. He messaged back very politely that it was a handi Barrel. I ramped up my stupid questions about Would it fit my Encore.
And with each question he would get a little sharper with his answers. And the auction was very clear about what it was and fit. I felt I was pushing his button and about to get a really nasty message from him. I told him who I was on graybeard and he got a good laugh. He thought I was going to be that problem child on eBay that anyone who has used eBay has run in to.
Mine is sporting a handi grip stock set.
Very fun gun to shoot.
