Who remembers Kate Smith?
Kate of the booming voice..who sang "God Bless America" as nobody else did.

Well, the PC police are calling a vendetta against her... No matter that she helped to raise $107 million in war bonds during WW2 (probably billions today). Never mind that she travelled 520,000 miles to entertain troops in war zones.

They are even removing her recording from their audio collection.

What was her big crime? It seems she sang a racially insensitive song ..way back in 1931.

Too bad Kate is not totally perfect and free from any hint of surely her critics must be !

The song was written expressedly for Kate Smith by Irving she sings it publicly, for the first time;

This banning of Kate Smith, causes one to wonder. I never heard that she sang offensive songs...back in 1931..a different era for sure. However, Kate was a super patriot for all he adult life.

Who knows whether in her secret heart of hearts she did not seek and gain forgiveness for this error? I don't know..does anybody Know?

It leads me to wonder just when this fit of iconoclast rage will subside...and where will we find perfect, and sinless worthy of honor?

"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God".

We are in the era of historical cleansing. Millions of folks believe Lincoln was a great humanitarian, and the civil war was about slavery.
The list goes on

Sad state. The pendulum always swings too far each time the stroke reverses.

If everyone was silenced because of something said or done in their past, this would be a quiet world indeed.

Used to rush home from school in early '50's to hear Kate Smith sing. I was the typical baseball loving kid, swimming at the river, cowboys and Indian running and racing type outdoors type kid who loved to hear this lady sing. Will never forget her. Too bad the moderns cannot appreciate a great talent and understand that times were different in the '30's. Big deal. Let it go.

I loved to listen to Kate Smith.

All this PC, liberal and the like stuff going on nowadays almost makes me glad I won't be around to listen to it much (comparatively) longer...

ironglow 04-20-2019 12:37 PM

And we thought it was bad when things are dredged up from the 70s and 80s, and used to attack people today..

Now the PC/hate crowd are reaching back 87 years , so as to attack a lady.

Can anyone name one single person then, who could stand that kind of close examination and come up sparkling ?

If there are any liberal/PC people reading this...I wish they would take the challenge, and name one person who could clear such close inspection of their life, and come up with no flaws.

She was a bit before my time but I remember my parents liked her. They had one of her records and listened to it on an RCA turntable. Patsy Cline and Hank Williams also. You older guys did have some good music.
