Default Texans.

Our daughter who now lives in East Texas had a question she wanted me to ask you guys. She's coming
home to pick up more of her stuff and she wants her 22 Henry rife we bought her. Will she be in any
legal risk by doing that? Unloaded and in her trunk? Just asking, or do we have to send it to an FFL? DPS
can be pretty mean, and she still has NM plates and license. Thank you.

Argent,

"Assuming" she is over 18 (over 21) I can't see any problem. I seriously doubt Texas has any "restrictions" on gun ownership, again over 18 etc. Transporting a firearm YOU OWN has not been an issue except in some Eastern States, then usually handguns and semiautos. Texas, please, isn't it illegal to NOT have a gun in your possession????? SELLING a gun interstate is another matter.

"Texas has no laws regarding carrying long guns in vehicles" according to Giffords Law Center.

Saiga, I think I would rather hear from some Texans on this matter.

There should be no problem with her transporting her rifle in Texas. I carry long guns and handguns all the time in my vehicles and there are no laws in Texas prohibiting it. If she has a handgun the law does stipulate it not be open sight, other than that she should be fine.
