Default FS 22" H&R handi barrel in 223 Rem. SOLD

Up for sale is a 22" H&R handi barrel. I purchased this barrel in a factory fitted set with a 444 Marlin specifically for the Marlin barrel and frame. I already have a 223 Ultra complete rifle so I am selling this barrel. The barrel is a standard contour ejector model. Barrel is in excellent condition, no rust, no muzzle ware, minimal scratches, riffling is shinny & bright. I am asking $180.00 shipped to your door. Now $170.00 TYD

Can you verify the twist rate? The year of purchase may help narrow the twist rate too.

Thanks, Dinny

I tried pulling a tight brush through from muzzle towards breach. Cleaning rod made one full turn at the 14" mark. I did this several times most of which came up the same. Do you have a more accurate way of testing the twist rate? How many different twist rates for 223 were made? As fare as date of manufacture. I am not sure I purchased this at auction used. I thought it was a factory fitted combo both barrels fit tight but then I noticed it was an ejector model with a CBA frame then I noticed the serial # did not match. Normally this would have bothered me but I never intended to fire it because I have very nice Ultra 223.

The top barrel is the one for sale. The rifle is complete 223 Ultra. Forgive me for the Barska scope.

See the twist rate page in the FAQs sticky for best method of determining twist, a brush on a ball bearing handled rod works best to follow the grooves, or a real tight patched jag. 223 twist is 1:9" for most extractor barrels and 1:12" for most ejector barrels, but they made them both ways around 2005-2006, after 2007 they were all 1:9" extractors.

Seems odd but possible that they accidently chambered one of their 1:14" barrels for 223 instead of 22-250.

Thanks, Dinny

I certainly wouldn't exclude that possibility, Dinny!

I rechecked twist rate using tighter brush and lubed rotation point. And I got 1 in 12" twist rate positively.
